For many years, Amateau was associated with the TV arm of 20th Century-Fox, where, among many other projects, he was intimately involved with the popular series The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis. In 1965, Amateau served as producer of the one, the only My Mother the Car. Back in theatrical films by the early 1970s, Amateau busied himself with such drive-in fare as Drive In (1976), and co-wrote, co-produced and directed the Peter Sellers comedy Where Does It Hurt?
