He began working in front of the camera with a recurring role on the daytime #92;soap opera As the World Turns in 2006, before being cast as wheelchair-bound Jason Street on the popular series Friday Night Lights, a show based on the movie of the same name, about a small town in Texas where high-school football is among the most important things in life. In 2007, Porter played the former bandmate of Hugh Grant in the #92;romantic comedy Music and Lyrics; he then signed on to appear in the remake of the classic #92;horror film Prom Night, as well as the live-action adaptation of the old-school #92;anime series Speed Racer.
