After graduating from high school in 1980, he worked in construction for a period, and eventually enrolled at New York University, but later dropped out. He decided to pursue a career in radio, and in 1989 began hosting his own show on a volunteer basis at college station KCSB in Santa Barbara. He was fired from the station after less than a year after he made disparaging remarks about the gay community during an interview with the author of a book proposing that AIDS was the result of a conspiracy. Hannity leveraged the press he received from the incident as best he could by placing an ad in a number of radio publications describing himself as "the most talked about college radio host in America," and later found a job at WVNN in Alabama. A short while later he moved to Georgia to work at WGST, where he stayed for four years. Then, in 1996, he scored a gig at Fox News appearing alongside Alan Colmes on Hannity & Colmes, so he moved to New York, where he also continued to work in radio on WABC. ~ Cammila Albertson, Rovi
