In 1979, the group shotto international fame with their second UK No. 1, "I Don't Like Mondays". This wasequally successful, as well as controversial; Geldof wrote it in the aftermath ofBrenda Ann Spencer's attempted massacre at an elementary school across the streetfrom her house in San Diego, California, at the beginning of 1979. Geldof laterjoined Bon Jovi for a duet of the song on 25 June 1995, at a concert in WembleyStadium in London, almost exactly ten years after Geldof performed the song at LiveAid.Geldof quickly became known as a colourful spokesman for rock music. The BoomtownRats' first appearance on Ireland's The Late Late Show led to complaints fromviewers. He had limited success as an actor, his most notable role being the lead inthe 1982 film Pink Floyd The Wall, based on Pink Floyd's album The Wall.Check outthe latest video at Xtra Broadband
