Resisting attempts by the studio to turn her into a traditional leading lady, Clark has actively sought out roles requiring heavy dramatics and extreme physical exertion: she won an Emmy award for the 1975 TV movie Babe, in which she played Olympic athlete Babe Didrickson Zaharias.
