Carrigan had appeared with James O'Neill in The Count of Monte Cristo, in the legendary Belasco production of The Girl of the Golden West, and opposite Lionel Barrymore in The Copperhead, prior to entering films with Selig in 1911. He scored a major hit as Prince Charming opposite his real-life wife Mabel Taliaferro in Cinderella, one of two versions of the fairy tale to be released in 1911 (the other, from the Thanhouser company, featured Florence LaBadie and Harry Benham), and later starred opposite Mary Miles Minter in four popular melodramas: Dimples (1916), Lovely Mary (1916), Rose of the Alley (1916), and Somewhere in America (1917). Less than three years later, however, he was headlining low-budget potboilers such as Love's Flame (1920), a World War I espionage melodrama widely considered the year's worst film. ~ Hans J.
