Ford's dramatic career commenced on a regal note when he signed to appear in director Robert Altman's 2001 drawing-room mystery Gosford Park opposite Maggie Smith, Helen Mirren, Michael Gambon, Clive Owen, and others. He scored a plum romantic lead opposite teen pop star Mandy Moore in the sweet-natured romantic comedy How to Deal (2003), then received a bit of humorous typecasting with a bit part in Michael Bay's 2005 actioner The Island (where Ford plays the Calvin Klein Model).
