    User Voted Top Reviews

Movie detail pages now have a new feature that lets you vote on the best user reviews. The top voted ones will now be highlighted as "top reviews".

With over 15 MILLION movie reviews now in our database, we wanted to start to do something to bubble the best ones to the top to make the site more useful for new people.

For now we're just trying this out on movie pages as an experiment. If it goes well, there is a lot more we can do including highlighting top reviewers each week etc.

We're very interested to hear people's feedback over the next couple weeks so let us know what you think.

This is a good feature. I'm looking forward to what it turns into eventually, but for now it might be a little 'bare bones' and hard to find for people. Good idea though.

    hey Joe, GREAT new feature.

    COMPLAINT:
I noticed that a few of the main movie pages use the user-created skins that someone made (i.e. the main page for the film, Red Eye, uses the Red Eye skin). I personally don't like this at all. Those skins should be used for people's profiles, but I shouldn't have to look at them on main pages if I don't like them.

Just my opinion. Maybe I'm in the minority. I know for a fact that I'm crazy, it just hasn't been scientifically proven yet.

As always, keep up the rockin' good work!

I love this idea, but I think the reviewers should be aware of how their reviews are doing, like if theyre being voted well of w/e...

also a way of knowing how many votes you need to be a featured review? other than that, great feature :D

OK, our second try at this. On the first try - very few reviews ever got enough votes to become featured on the movie detail pages so...

Now we're now showing reviews based on a combination of BOTH how recent they are and up/down votes.

There should now at least be reviews for almost all movies - hopefully over time the best ones will still bubble to the top.

Let us know what you think.

One question... maybe i'm not looking in the right place and missing it(in which case, could somebody please tell me where to look?), but it seems that we can't see how many thumbs up/down our reviews got, and i think it would be interesting to know, even if the vote count isn't made public and only the reviewer in question can see the said number.

Thanking you for all the great stuff you are spoling us with,
    Sabina.

Wow I'm so amazed - fair play to everyone running this site, because normally suggestions are completely ignored!! You're now my homepage!! Thankyou so much!!

One other things ( and then i promise I'll shut up) I agree with the above post, us knowing how we're being voted so we know which reviews are good? maybe?

    once again, thankyou XD

I would like to be able to vote (and see voting) for users reviews wherever they are displayed. On profiles, when films are recomended to my talk page, etc.

The more exposure the voting system gets the more likely it will function well, and perhaps even encourage users to put some thought into their reviews.

"I see how to vote - but where do you see how many Ups or Downs they may already have (or our own for that matter)?"

After you rate the review it will display how many votes it has had, and the percentage of thumbs up.
