Just because Tom Cruise is crazy DOESN'T mean he can't act!
It's getting kind of ridiculous. Tom Cruise is psycho, la la la Scientology! Get over it. Someone's personal life, crazy or not, doesn't ruin their movie performance. There were polls about Mel Gibson, and people said they wouldn't watch his movies after his drunken rant on Jews. BOO. HOO. Because of his drunken activities, Braveheart obviously sucks, imiright?! God, same with Cruise. He's amazing in Collateral and the like, but people are overlooking things like that because of his religion and couch jumping and quiet births... Now Paramount is dropping him for his recent activities in the public eye... oh god. Let's stop making movies with the dude because he's crazy, and that might make us look worse. People are still gonna go see you're movies, and you're gonna take in millions because his name is associated with things like Top Gun. =(
This is a VERY good thread. My thoughts on the man exactly. Tom Cruise, the man, is a tool. BUT, Tom Cruise, the actor, is very good in his profession. He's some had some GREAT roles in Collateral, Magnolia, The Last Samurai, War of the Worlds, and Eyes Wide Shut (plus more). Like the original poster said, let's start looking at people for their TALENT, not what they do in their spare time.
Add to my previous list his role in 'Rain Man', which constantly gets overshadowed by the powerhouse performance of Dustin Hoffman. Cruise did a great job in the film, he gave the character the constant streak of intensity that was needed and was able to manipulate that into a raw understanding as the film progressed.

Of course he can act. He's amazing. Ok, he's also somewhat nutty, but gah! That confidence is SO hot! He's so sure of himself. And his smile looks so sincere, like he's actually enjoying his life, rather than always whining about something like a lot of people.
As an actor Tom Cruise is very very very very good.All you have to do is watch Interview with a Vampire and you will see that.As a guy he is as nutty as a Snickers bar.
Yeah, maybe he is a scientologist but that is his personal belief. Why do people have to be prejudiced to others just because of their religion? And yes he is a great actor.
although i never found him sexy i agree the guy can act .. as for his personal life uhm what star doesnt have issues i think it sort of goes with the territory when i was younger i used to dream of being an actress now they couldnt pay me enough like i need my dirty laundry bared to the public sheesh if i wanted that ide just email it to everyone
my favorite tom cruise movies are jerry maguire and a few good men..i prefer him doing drama though i think he also has done great action films like MI and Top Gun.
I really enjoyed A Few Good Men. He plays that character really well. I've never seen Jerry Maguire, but I want to. I also want to see Days of Thunder. Is that good?
