I saw pans labyrinth opening night and by all means I was blown away by how well done this film was. It had great costuming, special effects as well as a very original screenplay while at it. The movie is scary at some parts and isnt for the faint of heart.
It is in foreign language so if anyone out there who doesn't like reading subtitles the whole time watching the movie then it isnt for you.I personally didnt mind the subtitles since I heard so much good things about it starting all the way back at the cannes film festival last year.
If anyone has seen such films like blade 2,hellboy,mimic,the devils backbone then you might as already can tell what to expect from pans labyrinth since it is from the same writer/director of those past films I named.
The mans name is guilermo del toro and I trully think that pans labyrinth is his best work yet and can tell since this film already has 6 academy award nominations.
If you havent seen pans labyrinth then by all means go out and see it because it is that good but if you don't have to see it then do so when it hits dvd because this is a trully not to miss film.
If you don't like subtitles because you actually have to read, then you people are lazy.
If you want a dubbed movie, then that is ridiculous. You have to watch the film in its original language and appreciate that, too.
I tried to watch Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Life is Beautiful in English, but it was unbearably fake. Subtitles are the only way to watch it.
Anyway, Pan's Labyrinth is brilliant. The 5th best movie of the year for me. It's very, very original and also very inappropriate for young children, so I would not take any child under the age of 12 to this film.
Go see it.. and if you're one of those people who hate subtitles, go watch South Park or something and knock a few more I.Q. points out of yourself...
this was an awesome movie done by the same director of devils backbone for those who haven't seen devils backbone and liked pans labyrinth i def recommend it
pans labyrinth is really kl but if u dnt know spanish da subtitles can b a bit annoyin coz even i found dem annoyin an i can speak it. If u study spanish especially its gd as the language used it quite basic.
its a bit predictable at times but really gd, ders nothin scary 2 it although its can be a bit weird at times but generally really gd. The plot to the movie is great an ders a lil blood but nothin goory i think ppl should c it its kl.
It's one of the really great movies I've seen recently, apart from Blood Diamond. But that's beside the point. I watched it without any idea what this movie was about, and although it was far from what I expected (fantasy story like Labryinth, etc) , it had a very interesting story as well as fantastic costumes and character designs.
And likewise, i don't think it's really suitable for really young children. For the rest of us, I guess we can appreciate the many 'layers' of this movie. Brilliant film!
I liked the movie. It was definitely on the darker side. And it was incredibly depressing too. It would make an interesting double feature with "The Fountain".
For that reason... it's very important speak more than 1 language. My native language is spanish, I'm from Puerto Rico (the most beautiful island of the caribbean.. maybe the world) and we speak spanish but we understand english.... so we can enjoy movies in both languages. So you guys learn other languages..
I don't enjoy films with subtitles, not because I am too lazy to read but I do have extremely bad eyesight and need to concentrate on the words so much that I miss the action.
I am not too lazy to learn a foreign language either, I do speak a few.
I agree however that dubbed films are not so much fun to watch. The ones I watch here on TV are all in German and I much prefer the option of watching DVD and choosing the original language.
I enjoyed Pan's Labyrinth from start to finish. I can see it cleaning quite a few Oscars this year, including best foreign film and maybe even cinematography.
Pans had it all, Humour, escapism, atmosphere, brutality, inventiveness, gorgeous sets and locations... I could harp on forever about Pans Labyrinth It's my new favourite movie ever!
I love this film.
I had heard about it and was interested in seeing it, then I realised my dad had it on DVD (He only bought it though so he could get the latest Bond movie for cheap!).
I borrowed the DVD, watched it, loved it, kept it :D
Oh and the subtitles don't bother me anyway because I ALWAYS have subtitles on :D
