IF it were i would have no interest in it.
I've played so many turn based RPGs in my time i've really just had enough of it.
Turn based combat and random encounters are dated.
We have the technology to do better so why stay in the past?
Let's be honest here does anyone actually enjoy turn based grinding for levels?

i think the semi random attacks in blade dancer are good
if you don't know the system works like this
when you are out of cities the land is full of these giant floating skulls of different colours
the colours determine the strength of the enemy/enemies
you can also find which type of enemy or enemies they are by locking on the skull.
The skulls follow you around so if you don't want to battle you can outrun them, and because you can see how difficult or how many enemies there are, you can choose which giant skull to walk into activating the battle
Electro there are far more than thirteen games infact theres even three versions of thirteen being released.
Square really does enjoy whoring their franchises.
But hell theres a total lack of PS3 games so i'll take ANYTHING.
In my opinion FF should not be classed as a Franchise, each game is completely unrelated from the others, (excluding the modern phenomenon for prequels/sequels for some of the FF games) Each FF game has a different style i.e. Medieval fantasy, Sci-fi and each is set in a different world
I mean all these games shouldn't be FF, they should each have a different title, and i think when the first FF game was created they didn't think the series would span so far
so i think you cannot complain about the FF franchise, because essentially it is just made up of different games under the same label,and it is an improper franchise. The only similarity between the games is turn based battles, and random encounters. And, in recent games these are beginning to dissappear.

lots of game series have four or more games and i've already explained that each FF is its own series so how can you justify 4 games and 1 movie as whoring?
You see mario, zelda etc etc have a different fanbase to final fantasy.
Each new mario game is a different game.
Where as each new final fantasy game tries to be as much like 7 so they can get they can draw the fans of 7 in.
Not to mention all the godamn spin offs.
I mean... FFX was brilliant, FFX-2 was not. Reminds me somewhat of Charlie's Angels :P
FFXII was okay, FFXII for the DS, which was a spin off from the PS2 one, was crap.
and i'm not even going to try the spin offs of FFVII. Sometimes i wish that they would just leave the game alone. I swear all i ever hear is FFVII this... FFVII that... I didn't find the game that great...>_>
But still, i disagree, Zig. I was never much of a fan for FFVII, it was okay but... meh. But i really enjoy FFVIII. To me, they were not really alike. That's the same with FFIX and FFX.
But Zelda is the same, is it not? There is ALWAYS Link, Zelda and Ganon and they're all linked via the triforce (Excluding The Minish Cap where there was no Ganon or triforce). Every Zelda game is just a different story tied together by this. (Not that i'm complaining, the games are brilliant xD)
But i do get what you're saying about FF, all the same battle style, magic and stuff (eg. Same monsters, summons, ultima, weapons etc.)... each game is kind of unique but similar at the same time... Just like Zelda, in my opinion.
Also... Random Encounters = very annoying. But FFXII did not have the random encounters, it had a strange battle style which i did not like very much... -_-"
yeah i don't find FFVII the best but that was a good point about LOZ, the games are basically all the same except windwaker and phantom hourglass, which have a distinctively different style.
The attack system is basically the same aswell, except in the games for DS or GBA

as i previously mentioned they are less of a series, more of tons of different games put under one big title.
And i think most FF games are based on FFVII because many people believe it was the best one and the most popular, but remember FFVII stood out because of its 3d Graphics, unseen in other FF games
also, perhaps FFVII was more popular because it was on the PS1, rather than a different console (like the previous FFs) So i think more people bought it because it was on the sony console

Mario is about mario and zelda is about link ganon and zelda.
As for saying all mario games are similar. After mario broke free of snes the games have had a different feel ever since.
Mario with a water pack, mario in space etc.
And saying the zelda games are all the same is silly.
Majoras mask and Ocarina of time are very different even though they use the exact same character models for half the people in the game.
However twilight princess was a shitty game because it tried to be like ocarina of time.... it was a shit fanservice game. Just like alot of the stuff Square does.

That is my exact point, what i am saying is because each FF game is a different game under one big logo that, in my opinion, shouldn't even be there; the FFVII sequels and prequels are acceptable because they are only part of FFVII not the rest of the FF's

Incorrect. They are different, yes. Different storylines but if they were all under some different name then it'll be rather strange if all of Square Enix's games are similar... but not called the same thing.
The battle style is the same in EVERY game (Excluding FFXII, Tactics and Crystal Chronicles). Either people like the style... or they don't. The only difference in each game is the storyline but many do have different things in eg. the junction system in FFVIII. But i do get Zig's point.
At the same time... i feel like i'm criticising a game i really enjoy playing... ^_^'''
