Terminator 4 has been on my watch ever since it was announced after Terminator 3. Originally the film was set to be shot back to back alongside Terminator 3 but it was insisted to give the films a gap that way it won't feel rushed. T4 has been under many rewrites due to the fact Arnold Schwarzenegger went in to be governor.
After 5 or so years it is good to finally see this film surface up. The storyline is supposedly set right after Judgement Day and revolves around John Conner and his Wife fighting alongside the resistence against the machines. Supposedly the timeline the film is set in doesn't show the human modeled androids but instead the rubber skinned ones.
This all remains interresting especially to the fact that Christian Bale is set to play john conner. the fact creature creator Stan Winston recently passed kinda bums me out due to the fact he is the one who provided props to all the terminator films. even if production is rushed I am very excited to see this next year.
I never liked McG's past films but this 4th entry in The Terminator franchise was possibly just great. The storyline in the film basically is about the future war and how John Conner must fight Skynet. The film introduces Marcus Wright who is a Death Row inmate reanimated by Skynet set as an infiltrator and whom is someone John Conner must either trust or destroy.
What impressed me altogether was the visual effects. ILM didn't disappoint yet again with their amazing visuals and awsome CGI background scenery. Shooting the film in the Mexico Desert was the best design choice as it resembles alot of a wasteland. Another thing has to be the sound. The explosions and machine effects all sounded amazing and surely doesn't disappoint at all.
Danny Elfman's musical score was also another great addition to this project too. His musical track really helped bring this film to life. The last great thing had to be Stan Winston's work. His imaginative designs on the T-600's and the rest of the machines was pure brilliant for him. The only bad thing I hated was that James Cameron had no involvment with this film. If he had his imagination set on this film then it could've been something even much better then it already is.
All n all this is a great summer action film that shouldn't be missed even if Arnolds appearence in brief in this installment.
McG had only done 3 other movies before this one so I wasn't too worried about his talent. Mainly because he produces two of my favorite shows that are on TV right now...Chuck and Supernatural. So I had faith and he proved what he could do when given something reasonable to work with...something Charlies Angels wasn't...obviously.
Yea same here. After I saw The Harvester machine in the previews I gotten thrown off by it, but in the end it was a good reason it was in there. There had to be good cause to how the humans were enslaved and rounded up so that is possibly why The Harvester was created. What I liked alot was the T-600 model Terminator's.
I was always intrigued to how they would look after I heard about them in Terminator 1, and to my surprise they looked awsome. The way they moved and looked was all well handled if you ask me. The early models of the Hunter Killer ships looked awsome, but what was missing was the full scaled Hunter Killer Tanks. The T-1 models had a small role but I did miss seeing the full scaled Tank versions.
If they do decide to bring the HK Tanks back I would want to see a design similar to James Cameron's that he used in the beginning of Terminator 1 n 2. I would also hope that Arnolds T-800 character gets a much much bigger part then he did in Salvation. Concidering that by time number 5 gets produced he would be done with his term as Governor so there is no excuse for Arnold not to be in Terminator 5.
I highly predict that Terminator 5 would go alot into time travel since Salvation didn't do so whatsoever. I also predict that it would more focus on Kyle Reese being older and how John Conner must get him through time to stop The Terminator from killing Conner's mother. I could also predict that number 5 is where Arnold's T-800 character gets captured and is reprogrammed to be sent to 1994 to save young John Conner from the T-1000.
McG did mention that he wants to possibly use Robert Patrick in Terminator 5 so it is logical to what that means.
When I first read that Charlier Angels 1 n 2 director McG was going to direct Terminator Salvation, I just thought it was a complete joke. It wasn't til after I read that Christian Bale was to play John Conner and so forth that my expectations were set high. As a Terminator fan I was blown away when watching this film. I went in not knowing this was a 200 million dollar production and was completely surprised.
This film surely didn't disappoint me as it so did with critics and would highly reccomend this to any sci fi or action movie goer
I thought that Star Trek was the best we were going to see this summer, and boy was I wrong. TS was awesome. It will definitely end up in my collection on Blu Ray. The effects were mind blowing.
Star Trek and Terminator Salvation both had a TON going for it. Them both were easily 200 million dollars a piece to produce at full capacity. Visualists ILM surely know their stuff and was entirely blown away with what they could achieve with Terminator Salvation and Star Trek.
What catches me about a film is not just the story but the production quality of the film as well. Reason I liked The Terminator franchise so much is due to the fact each one crossed different barriers and 4 is deffinitally no exception whatsoever.
I am a HUGE fan of T1 and T2, T3 is ok at best. But this one was BORING, nothing seemed to happen, the action was nothing special with maybe the exception of one scene. I hated how Bale would sometimes sound like Batman...I went in with low expectations and they should have been lower.
I just guess ur not BIG of a fan as I am with Terminator. The entire 4th film had me entertained and not once did I find it boring at all. I thought the CGI,action and scripting was well done and Christian Bale I thought was awsome. The fact he is now playing John Conner in this newly planned trilogy holds alot of promise for me.
The next installment is said to explore time travel so it could possibly get much much better.
I would consider myself a pretty BIG fan, T2 is top 10 movies of all time. But if a movie sucks to me it sucks, no matter if its in one of my favorite series lol.
I don't know dude. I liked Terminator Salvation due to the fact it took place in the future where machines ruled the world and that altogether interrested me. I didn't like the fact Arnold's role wasn't that big in the film. I know he is governor but he could've had a slightly bigger role then he initially did.
The fact he used his face to be digitally scanned on Roland Kickinger's body just didn't cut it for me.I did like how a good part of the story centered on the T-800's origins to how those machines were created though.
It was good but not great. The script wasn't polished enough, they gave way too much screen time to John Connor leaving the other characters pretty much just there for eye candy (Bryce Dallas Howard, Common) As much as I hate McG as a director, he's got an eye for action and this movie is loaded with it. Fave scene would have to be the one shot take of John Connor riding a helicopter and then crashing it. Pretty amazing visual work.
Bale is pretty much in every scene but I gotta say, newcomer Sam Worthington stole the movie. And Anton Yelchin holds his own as Kyle Reese.
I somewhat agree with you on that one. The fact it was 200 million just set the film in high places. I liked seeing all of those big visual effect shots and action segments throughout the film. Christian Bale did a pretty exceptional performance as John Conner. If this film does well he said he would reprise the role as John Conner for number 5.
Concidering number 5 might take place in 2029 means that alot of make up would be used to make Christian Bale look alot older then he initially is. It would all be very interresting to see concidering whenever it is that number 5 comes out.
Christian Bale said before Terminator Salvation started production that he would be doing 5 and 6 if Salvation sells. To my surprise Salvation is selling well so expect to see Christian Bale yet again. I am hoping that number 5 takes place in 2029 and revolves around the origins of the T-1000
Actually, the next installment will be set in pre-Judgment Day 2011 ...
In an MTV interview last month McG stated that: "John Connor is going to travel back in time and he’s going to have to galvanize the militaries of the world for an impending Skynet invasion."
McG also stated that he wanted Robert Patrick to come back, but this time as a scientist involved with stem-cell research, who Connor meets in the past. McG wants the next movie to feel like the first two in the franchise.
I read that article but it isn't official yet. Unless McG is help writing the script he can't have an official say what the story is going to be. It's the writers decision to what the story is going to be about. For all we know McG might not return as director if the producers don't want him.
The story should just press forward and have it set in 2029 and show the ongoing war against Skynet. Setting the film in 2011 would be lame if you ask me.
2011 T5 is a bad idea. We were supposed to see John Connor win the war, not go backwards in time and meet Robert Patrick as a scientist, wouldn't work for me.
I would rather see the events that took place when John Connor sent Kyle Reese back in time (T1) and his eventual death in the hands of Arnie terminator (T3)
I've just came out of Terminator 4 and it's like McG (anyone who has a name like that deserves to be slapped) has been hanging out with Michael Bay. In the way that you think you can just hold a camera at an explosion and come up with a 'plot', hoping it will work.
It's all over the place. Sorry, it is. It lacks the soul of the the first two and it just feels like it has hardly any relevance. It's like a unremarkable video game movie (i.e Max Payne, Hitman).
