Casper Van Dien reprises his role as Rico who leads the Mobile Infantry to war against the bugs once again. Supposedly this film is set on a whole new planet and is about a giant scorpion bug that is like an omega weapon or something. I saw previews and it really didn't have me all that interrested. The fact that number 1 was awsome but didn't make enough to warrent a sequel to theaters means alot right there.
Edward Neumier yet again writes off this 3rd entry but also takes the director's chair as well. Neumier originally just wrote 1 which was great and then number 2 which really wasn't all that. I personally haven't seen 2 but since a boxed set is due next month on blu ray I might just pick all 3 of them up at once.
Starship Troopers 3 could might as well be an epic failure or possibly an epic masterpiece.
Especially concidering the fact part 2 took so long to come out after part 1's release in 1997. Starship Troopers had the formula to be a good trilogy it's just noone knew number 1 would've tanked at the box office like it did that year.
Starship Troopers 1 was very good. It had a clever director and also a somewhat decent screenwriter. The fact the writer stuck with the whole trilogy is somewhat impressive(concidering number 1 didn't sell that well).
After seeing previews for Starship Troopers 3 it left me questioning if it would be worth the wait or not. All I know is that as long as it is somewhat decent then I might as well watch it.
What does that have to do with Starship Troopers? Well anyhow the 3rd installment hits Blu Ray and DVD early august so I might as well go and pick it up on Blu Ray. The previews don't look as promising but hopefully it would turn out to be a decent film at the very best.
Despite the fact that the first Starship Troopers didn’t do all that great, I still consider it a better than average movie. Having Dina Meyer and Denise Richards didn’t hurt either.
At one of the recent movies that I went to they had a inside look at Starship Troopers 3: Marauder before the film began and it looks decent enough to watch.
I might go out and buy the set on Blu Ray but I am skeptical about 2 and the upcoming 3. The fact the 2 sequels are direct to DVD films really doesn't show much promise whatsoever. Hopefully the visual effects on 2 and 3 could soemwhat make up for the overall storylines.
I saw an HD trailer for number 3 last night and the visuals don’t look as good as the first, but they don’t look horrible either. Of course, the budget for this film is less then the original troopers.
I personally believe that if something doesn't sell well then don't ask for a sequel.Reason I say this is because films like Starship Troopers generate poorly produced sequel after sequel which then become somewhat of a joke to alot of viewers. I haven't seen Starship Troopers 2 but I am a fan of the very first one.
Reason so is because the first film pushed boundaries of visual effects and it had a decent storyline as well. Since the first didn't do well financially meant that 2 was to get a direct to DVD treatment. This to me was somewhat bad and is the reason I didn't see it. I do plan on buying the complete Starship Troopers trilogy on Blu Ray next mnth so maybe then I can witness 2 and 3 for myself and see how they are.
I just gotten the Starship Troopers set on Blu Ray last night. I happened to watch Starship Troopers 2 for the very first time and to be honest I was somewhat impressed. For a direct to DVD(and now Blu Ray) film it visually looked good. Alot of the CGI looked really neat and some of the acting was okay as well.
The only turn off is that this film took place in one location and thats about it. In part 1, the troopers went to various planets to fight the bugs. In this one, the Troopers are stuck inside a abandoned base fending off the bugs and encountering a new type of enemy. I could've easily seen it was low budget due to alot of close up shots when it was filmed in the exterior areas. The camera work also didn't look the neat either.
The fact a VFX technician was hired to direct this sequel was somewhat a good thing. Also the fact that the writer of Starship Troopers 1 written number 2 was neat also.Only if it had a bit better acting this film would've been a tad better but so far it is just an average sequel at best.
