Batman (1989)
Batman Returns (1992)
Batman Forever (1995)
Batman & Robin (1997)
Before the The Dark Knight releases on 07/18/08, let's take a look bake to the first four Bamtan movies from Tim Burton and Joel "ScrewyouBatFans".
Batman and Batman Returns are both great films, my favorite Burton Films, where Batman Forever is good, and Batman & Robin feels like a spoof with the name Bamtan planted in it.
Now, what is your opinion on the first four BatFilms.
"Batman" & "Batman Returns" are shear classics. Those other two need to be wiped off the face of this earth. They were complete trash; especially "Batman & Robin".
Let me, correct myself... "Batman Forever" was just ok... but, that other one was a complete disaster.
I feel the same way about Batman and Robin almost being a spoof. It was like they couldn't decide if they wanted to do a serious Batman movie like Burton or if they wanted to be like the old tv series. Plus, George Clooney was not a good choice
1. I loved Batman Returns more than Batman, but in terms of acting, Jack Nicholson blew Michelle Pfieffer and Danny DeVito off the charts. I remember that Batman was the very first movie I watched (it being the one released during my birth year), and I also remember being totally scared whenever Jack Nicholson did this creepy laugh while he was reading a newspaper in Jack Palance's office.
2. Batman Forever was good, yes, and it wasn't a complete disaster because it seemed to give a romantic-comedy mood to the whole Batman genre, hence why I love it so much.
3. Batman and Robin was bad, but not complete rubbish. Even George Clooney admits to having made a mistake by signing up for the role (read this in an interview he did for Reader's Digest), but it only made him more wary in signing up for future movie roles. Uma Thurman played her part well, I think, and anyway, it was still amusing to watch. Save for the part where Alicia Silverstone faced Poison Ivy. THAT was the lowest part in the entire film.
4. Batman Begins was a complete turnaround. Gave me the shock and delight of my life as Christian Bale gave a whole new face to the character of Batman; he seemed flawed, imperfect, and that's what I was looking for. Not that Keaton didn't give it during HIS performance (nor did Kilmer or Clooney), but there was something extra in Bale's performance. And to think that he started out as the voice of Thomas in Pocahontas.
5. Dark Knight is certain to kick the rest in the butt.
The Tim Burton one was good actually tho I heard somewhere that Tim isn't really a Batman fan but still, he made a good Batman film. The sequel 'Returns' was still okay, DeVito's Penguin is one creepy portrayal.
But when Schumacher stepped in to make 'Forever', it was the and I quote "the beginning of the end" and true that, when he made the horrendous and ridiculous George Clooney starrer 'Batman and Robin', that alone destroyed Batman's reputation in films. I can list a thousand reasons why the film stinks to high heaven: The bat nipples, the BatVisa, the totally unnecessary she-sidekick Batwoman, the ridiculous Batmobile, using a trap door as a skateboard in mid air, the hilarious lines of Mr. Freeze: "You're not sending me to da cooolah!" wtflol and the list goes on.
I really thank Nolan for bringing Batman back from the dead and with the near release of TDK (actually its already released here) I owe him my life.
lol i agree burtons films of batman i think where awesome! and the batman and robin where ok only thing i liked was two face, and the riddler hehe but the way last one was just 4 laughs lol it was purty stupid now i wanna watc the darj knight =] lol
If you look on 'Batman Forever' and 'Batman and Robin' as adaptations of Batman as played by Adam West in the TV show then they are easier to watch.(at least they don't seem as unintentionally bad)
Batman is a character that has changed and evolved for years each filmmakers portayal of the character can reflect a different generation or era.
.....'Batman and Robin' is one of the worst films ever made, regardless of which way you look at it. Be it a failed actioner, a topless comedy, or an experiment at pushing a character into new fields - it's just bad...like really bad...like gouging my eyes out if a screen playing that dross is ever in front of me bad.
For the month of July, there's this channel on the telly that shows a Batman movie for every Friday night, and I'm on "Batman and Robin" already.
I changed my mind. It was total trash. It was a complete, total waste of talent. Schwarzenegger looked like an awkward Tin Man, Thurman was a sultry wannabe, Silverstone was really trying too hard to fit in to the Dynamic Duo, and the Dynamic Duo was... well, they were dynamite. One look at them and I went BOOM.
