    War Stories

I thought it might be fun to collect some of our "war stories".

Everyone's had that time playing a game when everything goes exactly to plan, everything works out great. Sometimes its skill, usually its just luck but when it happens you're having the time of your life. On the other hand, just as often are the times when everything goes wrong and whatever you try blows up in your face.

Either way, it almost always results in a great story.

    xD

Day of Defeat: Source, my first time playing this map so I was doing some exploring. I managed to flank the enemy by going through some tunnels. I saw a lot of Germans piling into a room though a window. They were getting ready to mount an attack on the CP closest to our base. Luckily they hadn't seen me yet. I thought about following them in through the window and taking them all by surprise. My Thompson would make that fairly easy.

However, to get to the window, I would have to climb up a mound of earth that was placed underneath it, then crouch jump onto the window and then I could go into the room. Easy enough for the Germans but they didnt have a roomful of angry enemies with guns waiting for them inside the room.

I checked my other weapons; a pistol, a smoke and a frag grenade. I threw my one frag grenade into the room. My grenade took out most of them and I felt much safer climbing in through the window while most of the Germans were dead and the rest disorientated and wounded. A few short bursts from the Thompson and the remaining Germans wer sent back to the spawn :D

I took this opportunity to cap the point closest to the enemy base and only realised my mistake after a couple of seconds capping: in DoD the respawn timers are very short. The German respawn was afar the point I had just capped. If they were angry before, they were seriously pissed off now. A horde of freshly respawned, pissed off Germans were heading straight for me...

They hadn't seen me yet but they knew I was there. At that range my SMG wouldn't match up to the arsenal and hostile attitude of "Ze Germans". If I ran, I'd be shot dead.

I threw my last hope, the smoke grenade at where i thought they would be heading. I was right. The Germans were confused and blinded. Taking this chance, I dove into the middle of them, firing wildly with my Thompson. The side of the screen filled up with messages of the Germans team-killing, mixed in with the odd lucky kill by me.

When the smoke cleared I was the last man standing. This time, without a frag or a smoke grenade, and with the Germans more annoyed at me than ever, I bravely ran away.

My war story is the final bosses of Crisis Core: FFVII

i mean they were just too easy

seriously, i've had more trouble against earlier bosses, and even some basic enemies

    I didn't even die once

and seriously i wasted a Pheonix down for nothing, i used it so i had "Raise" activated, just in case i lost all my HP, but it didn't happen

i could have started New Game + with 5 Pheonix downs, but I had to start with 4 instead! do you even know how rare Pheonix downs are?

Too many to retell all at once...

One of the earliest memories is on PS1, in MGS, when I first took on Vulcan Raven in the Tank.

Then there was the Syphon Filter series, so many stunts and shots to mention. The best was the high free fall roll land and shoot movie. The first game was pure hectic, it was all out war in Washington DC! - the flame thrower guy in the Museum, the russian chick in the subway with trains coming through plus a gazillion terrorists.

I got MOH Frontline PS2 when it first came out.... and ont he first level we were chucked straight into the Assault on Omaha Beach and I nailed 3 machine gunners with 3 perfect headshots from a Garand M1...

In Rising Sun when we chucked headfirst into the Pearl Harbour Bombings and we had to shoot down the kamikazes.

Then there was the time I got my UNRATED version copy of Vice City and I took a trail bike and did a nice 100 metre jump while blasting some other bike guy. Plus at the SCARFACE ending when I took on the Mob and blew them away... I blew away that rat Lance Vance with a rocket launcher.

Then in San Andreas, in the Desert I rode a trail bike off the highest peak and did a nice base jump.

A brief explaination of a Phoenix down:

An Item found in Final Fantasy games, it is used to ressurect KO/Dead characters.

In most FF games it is used by one party member to revive another

however, due to the lack of Parties in Crisis Core, a phoenix down must be used beforehand, this gives you the status effect "raise" which ressurects the main character from Death/KO with full health. This only happens once per Phoenix down

oh I see... still haven't played Crisis core yet. I don't like Final Fantasy much, but since a friend of mine said it "has a deep story" hmmm maybe I'll give it a shot... someday

btw K... most of those are just general stuff you can do... and scripted games tend to have epic moments easily. Just like Call of Duty 4, it has epic written all over it. But STALKER, since it's more based on randomness, it's hard to be EPIC sometimes... but when it is, you'd be like :0 jeebus!

Well, lolz, whats not epic about GTA??? Or the nice head shots?? XD??

Anyways, as far as epic stuff goes... pretty much the most rewrding came out of lightsaber duels in Jedi Academy, or racing games with a good drift element.

And mate, when mgs1 came out, and when each person played it, the whole experienc was epic. XD

you can do that any time though

Once in Battlefield 2, I was manning the mini-gun on a heli, this jetguy came and blew us. I was fast enough to exit the vehicle. I drew out the SMG and shot multiple shots at the jet's windshield... and I killed the pilot, in mid-air.

Too bad with my amazement I forgot to pull the chute open -.-

Well, as for the jump, it was a spectacular dive.... it was mroe that I left it to he last second to open the parachute, then cut myself lose for a "navy seal" like dive into the water.

    ^point.

but then again... whats a war story? XD

Anyways I got another one, just recently.

I was playing Stranglehold, on the level when I go to confront the Triad Boss in the casino. I managed to place my "guitar case" next to a banister which I can slide down on, on one side of the room.

    Now:

Bag guys swarming around me, I managed to jump on the bar on the second floor, and run while shooting - armed with a M16 and shotgun. Ammo and health was very low.... but I managed to jump on a trolley and take a ride to the end of the room, I got up just as the trolley was about to g down the stair, did a quick step jump on to the banister and do a nice slide down, ammo completely gone.... then as I passed my case, I got refilled health a rounds and there were 3 guys waiting at the bottom, two I managed to blow away while sliding, the third I jumped off and did a side dive and took off his head.

    ^____^

then i got to the middle of the room and did the 360 spin attack with the M16, which knocked off the other, in pure John Woo fashion.

Most of that stuff is scripted though.

I got to hide in a fridge in STALKER Multiplayer, hid there for a couple of minutes and knifed a sniper that was camping, then I stole their artefact and hid in the fridge again until they moved away ^^

Then I secured the piece :P

    Was kind of cold though.

^Lololz, Stanglehold isnt scripted as far as movement and action is concerned.

    Anyways, if you want FPS...

    Soldier of Fortune Payback:

This was back when I first bought the game, im having trouble killing the last bad guy, he has a friggin huge shotgun and moves real fast....

So I ambushed him with a full spray with a machine gun to throw him off, then a quick switch to shotgun until I get up close and then started to stab the crap outta him.... man the fool doesnt die easy.

Isn't scripted? You do the EXACT same moves over and over again... oh and you also shoot bad guys for like 2 hours. There hardly is any strategic combat, just mindless action and thinking, what move should I do next?

SoF was a good game, but don't bring old shit up, no one wants to play the same generic shooter. If you want an FPS get STALKER or Team Fortress 2, and not an out-dated game... heck the original DOOM is much better.

not the exact moves over and over again. Yes, you have a limited number of moves but how you perform and the result is what counts. I dont see that as scripting.

For SOFP, usually had to blow his head off, I was low on ammo.

For Strangehold, nothing is scripted, you gotta ride the flow and hope you dont end up as piecemeal.

Its not scripted actually but the player isn't free, the fighting settings are pretty small too and gah you get the same characters over and over again.

Oh look that's his twin! the cousin! prodigal son...

damn are they all look alike...

Headless people continue shooting at you.

^lolololz, a little exaggerated there Mouzer. XD

Nope, headless people dont fire at you. But its good be a gung ho solo warrior kickin ass and taking names. Nice choice of weaponry too.

Anyways.... one game with heaps of stories is Jedi Academy.

Despite its known limitations, there are heaps of moves you can do with a little ingenuity.... and the Saber Realistic combat cheat. XD

Anyways, one of my favourite force moves was the air fling. Usually I either do a drop down on opponents from a ledge or force jump, centre on fools and use Force Pull on them, and on Jedi Knight Status, it flings them a mile into the air, and they fall and break their necks, Storm Trooper or Dark Jedi alike. Usually.

    XD

One time in the Mutated Rancor Stage, the fool flew into the air, but the lucky bastard ended up on a high crate, which saved his ass. Pretty much he got up and tried to jump over me... a little force pull bought him to me, a nice upward slash cut him in two.(saber realistic combat)

    Perfect. ^______________^

You might be happy to hear a TF2 one Keith.

We were playing one of those cart missions and my team was attacking. The defenders were pretty good at one stage especially with those Heavy-Medic combos. One time I took a quick shortcut and went around them from behind. I was a sniper back then. I aimed at the medic and there someone spoke into the microphone 'behind you!' and I shot the medic. Heavy still didn't realise it and so I shot him in the head too. Hehe, it's a fun game.
