My name is Brad, and I'm the product guy here at Flixster.com.
You've probably noticed we made some changes here at Flixster.com (as of 9/9/08). Please feel free to post any feedback on the new features and changes here, or you can reach me directly either via a talk message (http://www.flixster.com/user/brad) or email - brad@flixster-inc.com.
We've been working hard to make Flixster a better place for you, and we're excited to get any sort of feedback you might have.
So far guys - I'm a fan.
The new layout flows much better - things are softer and not as bold as it was before, putting more focus on the great features and content that is being produced. But that's not to forget the looks of the site - which are a lot sleeker now.
It was also from digging through your source code that I learnt all about CSS Sprites - good to see you've put them to good use again ;-)
I completely agree with Scarlet on the whole friends online menu that was taken out. I'm sorry, but it makes it kind of harder to tell who's online and not. People don't want to go ALL the way to their friends list on their profile to search. I believe it would be very much appreciated if we could have it back, please.
By the way, my dear friend Meghan has a point. Maybe you should actually consider taking our thoughts and opinions into consideration, instead of saying you will and get to it. Well anyways, I hope you'll consider these ones, because that damn friend thingy sure is missed.
Profile skins don't work.
That's THOUSANDS OF SKINS that people worked long and hard on and they don't work. I suggest that gets fixed. Especially because I like the one I had on my profile T_T
Also, I miss the friends online thing. It came in handy a lot..
And I agree with Meghan as well. I can see my DEMAND didn't happen. >_>
I totally agree with Jessica and Meghan. All those skins ppl made, I am sure they are upset, I know I am. I made 10 that I cant use anymore. And also, all the stuff that has mean mentioned on the "Demand Stuff Here" thread hasnt been fixed yet.
The new layout looks nice mostly, but it is incredibly bland, its all white. Cud definitely use those skins.
Thanks for the feedback. A few comments from various posts:
- I hear you on the "friends online" thing. We have a couple of really cool solutions coming that will make it easier to message friends. In the meantime, we've been working on getting something in to let you easily see who's online and message them.
- And I hear you on skins. We have noticed that some skins are pretty banged up right now, and we're working on that. Unfortunately, the skins are that "broken" use tactics (e.g. CSS tweaks) that we don't officially support. We know people work hard on skins, and we love them, and we're working to find a solution.
- Thanks for the feedback on the colors. I know it looks kinda bland to some folks, but the hope is that the site itself won't be the visual attraction and that the stuff you guys do will. So skins, pics, videos, etc., etc. will take center stage rather than bright site colors and heavy boxes.
- Any feedback on being able to watch TV & Movies? Family Guy? The Simpsons? (Apologies to non-US folks - you can't do that yet. It's the studios' fault - not ours. :) We're working on it.)
Thanks, again, and thanks for your patience. This is the biggest chunk of visual work Flixster.com has ever gone through, so bear with us on some of the hiccups. And please keep feedback coming in.
- instead of the top "friends online" feature, here are a couple of ways to find friends online:
--Your friends list (Friends / My Friends).
People with the green "online" notice are... online. You can click the little "send a message" icon/link, and you can do a quick message without clicking through to the person's profile.
--Your own profile - the "My Friends" box. This is a good summary of who's online.
Also, notice that at the top of everyone's profiles, you can now do a "quick talk" message - type in the box above "favorites" and click send.
- Regarding feedback - and "demand stuff here" - we're listening (and I apologize if it seems like we're not). If you feel like you're not getting enough back from us, please either request the feature through our contact form or message me directly. We're still a tiny, tiny group of people here at Flixsterville, so please have patience. Everything you're seeing on the site has come from user feedback of one kind or another, so believe me when I say, "We love your feedback." We do.
also, if you haven't seen it yet, here's a list of all of the stuff we just released.
Thanx for quick solutions. And I understand the site is easier to look at now, but I still think it would look better if it were all blue, instead of just the top, cuz its just too white for me. But at least my skin is back. Woohoo.
Thanks for everything Brad, it's nice to know that you guys are actually caring about and considering our requests. I'm also glad to hear that we'll be getting back the "friends online" feature.
Brad:

You can use flash, or a Live Streaming video like justin.tv, you will then enable it on the site (I'm imagining as if you have already bought the rights to play "movieA online") and play this so called "movieA" with 30 minutes intermissions each - in these 30 minutes you'll advertise movies and other products. You can also enable a chat (without the user avvies so the stream will be less strained). You'll get profit and much more users. You could repeat the movie for a whole day of else, show all the Lord of the Rings series in a one nighter.
Everything will be legal, you'll pay from the rights, flixster will get profit from the adverts (mostly movie trailers).
Short:

I always wondered why the scripts where there actually. Now I'll recheck the source code again.
thanks for getting the friends online box back ^_^ much easier!
and whoever it was that said it would be better if the whole thing were blue... i completely disagree. another site i'm on tried that as a trial... it was way too much blue and then hurt my eyes when i went to an msn window afterwards.
however, i do think the white is too much. will it alter the load times too much to put a soft grey behind it?
