In the Near Future, You Don't Live to Play... You'll Play to Live.
Set in the near future, a time when mind-control technology has taken society by storm. Humans control other humans in a mass-scale, multiplayer online game. Reclusive billionaire Ken Castle has created the controversial form of entertainment, "Slayers," a hugely popular game that allows millions to act out their innermost desires and fantasies -- online -- in front of a global audience. Gaming has evolved into a terrifying new dimension-mind control-manipulation-people playing people. At the center is Kable, the superstar and cult hero of "Slayers," the savage, ultra-violent first person shooter game. Kable is controlled by Simon, a young gamer with rock star status who continues to defy all odds by guiding Kable to victory each week. Taken from his family, imprisoned and forced to fight against his will, the modern day gladiator must survive long enough to escape the game to free his family, regain his identity and to save mankind from Castle's ruthless technology.
I remembered when this film was first announced right after 300 came to theaters back in early 2007. When reading that Gerard Butler was going to be in it I actually had hope from this film. After 2 years of being in the cold I was surprised to see the trailer just miraculously appear on IGN's website. What caught me was seeing Dexter's Michael C Hall in this film. I nearly laughed when seeing that because I was pretty big on the show.
He deserves a role in a theatrical film and just seeing him as the crazy mastermind of the whole game thing is just awsome. The action segments all look good and the story seems pretty decent so I might be checking this out when it comes out this September.
Lionsgate very rarely puts out action oriented films so Gamer could as matter in fact be a pretty decent action film if you ask me.The last action film I seen that Lionsgate put out was Punisher Warzone and that was a pretty well produced action film if you ask me
When I see the trailer, I automatically think of a mix of the "the Sims", "Death Race" and "the Running Man"; especially the scene were Slayer is picking the players. And than its a game of survival and noone ever reaches the end of said game.
I highly think that Gamer would turn out to be a pretty entertaining film in the long run. Gerard Butler has established himself pretty well after his success with 300 back in 2007. Since then he has been working hard to make a name for himself and along with Michael C Hall who plays the villian of the film.
I always appreciated Michael C Hall in Dexter so I would be intrigued to see what kinda character he brings to the table in Gamer
There also seems to be a nice supporting cast that include: John Leguizamo,Sam Witwer, Milo Ventimiglia, Efren Ramirez, Terry Crews and Alison Lohman.
The scope of the film seems impressive, but I've always cautioned on misleading trailers. We won't know really if this movie is any good until it actually comes out...I personally have yet to see a Gerard Butler movie I have hated.
I personally do not like John Leguizamo whatsoever. As an actor I think he has no talent but I do think this film looks pretty interresting. Gerard Butler is starting to make a name for himself and I highly think Gamer looks like an interresting film if you ask me.
