Whenever I try to explain why I hate this movie everyone tells me how it is difficult movie, and that it is not for everybody. But it's not. I have nothing against difficult movies. What I can't stand are misanthropic movies, "the Gibson movies" such as this one. "Magdalene Sisters" is difficult movie. A good movie. This? This is crap. Like "Amores Peros". Like "Apocalypto". Whenever I watch Lars von Treir movie, I got a felling that he is just trying to have a revenge on somebody who made fun of him, and now, since he couldn't stand up to them in reality, he'll do it trough the fiction. But why would i want to watch a movie that walks such far distances just to humiliate, destroy, neglect it's main character. And don't tell me these kind of thing are "life". No one is such a dumb, petty person as Selma. No one will kill just cause someone said "pretty please".
Recently I have totally gave up on Treir. If a movie starts and I see word "Zentropa" I just turn it off. That's as much as I can take from von Treir, sure a skillful director, but worst storyteller and second most hateful person among directors. If you love to feel miserable, if you like being spat at, if you think that life is nothing but cruel, sure, this may just turn out to be perfect film for you.

One thing I just can't figure out. Why does Monica has to be brutally beaten in every movie she is in? Is that what she believes to be art?
Anyway, a movie is just to boring.

I even prefer this version to the one from 1995. Sure, it's less faithful to the book, but is also three times shorter, and simply can't include everything. Changes made to the remaining parts were all in right place and managed to intensify emotions. Honestly, the way I see it, the only plus BBC version had over this is that it was so much like a book. There were only few scenes added, and those are regarded as best ones, so obviously, not sticking to the book while filming, seams like a good idea. Here however, there are some wonderful camera tricks, not just merely showing of sites. Sisters are way more beautiful, as they are supposed to be, as are Mr. Bingley and Mr. Darsy (as much as I love Firth, he just isn't strikingly handsome as described by Austen). Insignificant characters were kicked out entirely, and some characters are changed from their description in book, most notably Mary Bennet who is more likable here, Miss Darcy, and of course Mr. Darsy, who seams more confused than arrogant, but then again, he does appear that way in the book as well on second reading. The Longbourn estate, and Bennet sisters do indeed seam poor, and I loved presence of animals and often rains, which were nowhere to be seen in older version. Of all the changes, I enjoyed "first proposal" most of all, as now they were both standing, soaked in wet and looked much more aggravated. Big plus also goes for casting of Mr. Bennet and Lady Catherine. The only mis is in that some lines are raved to quickly leaving the feel they are rehearsed (as they in fact are) instead of making them sound naturally.
