Undeniable is its importance to film industry history, even if being considered a faux documentary. Flaherty wanted a portrayal of the true Inuit ancestors in the cold arctic, so he fooled the audiences to accomplish that, by adding a bit of staging. The result is in sight. An unscrupulous depiction of a now lost kind of living.

oh my! i've never been much into political movies, but now, geez, i was blown away by the narrative of this one. what a true masterpiece! what started like a very simple storyline, with this country fellow entering into the true important decisions world, the senate, and his first lessons about the american constitution, politics, and even the city life he wasn't used to, ended with a battle between him (and all that he believed in) and the big and corrupt politic machine. a struggle that left me without words, like an action film only with arguments.

a masterpiece way ahead of its time.

call it overrated, call it pretentious, call it whatever you may want to, but what is remarkable is that i could stand the whole 3h30 length of the film, through out the night, without blinking the eyes... a classic alright.

hilarious!

a more positive view of Steinbeck's novel, and more focused on the unity of the family rather than its struggle to survive in such despicable conditions. i honestly am somewhat disapointed on how the film turned out to be, way far from the book concept and symbolism. i can't really blame anyone though, except maybe classic Hollywood with its conservative ideals and prodution codes.

a fantastic low-budget film noir. I saw this by accident on one of my classes, that I was about to miss, but gladly, I didn't.

my first film noir on its original essence, and what a great film it was.

there were just too many dance scenes...not that i'm against them, i even like some musicals, but then this one was just too boring with all the singin' and dancin'... and the story was dull and plain.

truly a remarkable film. and as much people say they don't like musicals, me included, they always end up admiring films like these.

although i found it a bit too slow, it was still very interesting, with all those history lessons combined with the drama, concerning an unhappy married couple. i disliked the quality of the film though, with some wrong shots (where you get to see the camera) or the sometimes bad sound.

some singing/dancing parts are so ridiculous that its hilarious. cheesy yes, but amusing.

utterly horrendous. yet beautiful, and i mean not in a good way. art is never the imagery of what is good, but of what is beautiful.
i think everyone, but EVERYONE, now, and in the future, should see this documentary, and get disgusted, get horrified, turn the face away with some images, so that things like this do not happen EVER AGAIN.

quite good musical, i loved the jazzy style, and Louis Armstrong is a blast! and Grace Kelly...what a beautiful woman...

this is so much better than any action film! it was brilliant. plus you never get to see anything besides 12 guys arguing inside a sealed room. and, for that, the camera work, the angles, the script... were just too good.

great film, very moral and introspective. it was my introduction to Ingmar Bergman, and it left me with desire for more.

what a gem! Tati's simple comedy, not made to be hilarious, but made to put a smile upon your face.

very good. even though i still prefer Hiroshima Mon Amour as one of the French Wave firestarters, 400 Blows was still marvelous... and yea, like some say, the last scene was quite something.

man, it was awesome film, until they remembered including more 45 mins after the chariot race. it was one of the most superb sequences i've ever encountered in a film, and it should have ended there or right after Messala's death, sparing all of the cheesy moments and unlikely miracles that came after. despite this, its still a remarkable achievement.

great film, yea, but i don't understand what was all the fuss about...i mean, comparing to others from Fellini that i've seen (not many, i may add), i still point out 8 1/2 as my favorite one.

i should do a refresh on all the ratings i've done so far on those recent psychological thrillers, because compared to this classic masterpiece, they're just nothing! i mean, all the clichés you get to see in horror cinema today are here...and i got so weirdly surprised to see stuff (mainly psychological elements, like the light, camera work, and twists) that i got used to see in 2000's here on a film from almost 50 years ago!
