This list is comprised of movies I have seen that are found in the book, "1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die", fifth edition. The movies are in the order that they appear in the book.
James Stewart's performance alone makes this film worthy of five stars. It's hypnotic as the doughboy, All-American optimist. The filabuster finale is riveting. Excellent supporting cast, spots of humour throughout.
A very charming romantic comedy starring three legendary performers at the top of their comedic game. Well paced laughs, and just enough heart to make you care. The scene between Grant and a drunk Stewart steals the movie. Very enjoyable, highly recommended.
Enjoyable british heist film. It was not as funny as I was expecting, but it still had its moments. Surprising twists and resolutions. Alec Guinness was a treat to watch.
This ranks right up there with the best courtroom dramas. Great performances by Stewart and a young George C. Scott. Never a dull moment, even at 160min this movie just flies by.
Highly enjoyable, mystery movie. Many twists and turns with brilliant performances by Olivier and Caine. See it before the remake comes out later this year with Caine in the Olivier role and Jude Law in the Caine role.
I need to see the original cut and/or the final "final", I wasn't all that impressed with the first Director's Cut. It's such a landmark movie, I need to give it another chance.
This has been a Christmas stable in my house for more than 20 years. Sometimes even more than once. It's perfect. I laugh just as hard now, as I did then and I find myself laughing knowing what's coming up and then still laugh at the pay off. I love it.
Just a pure cinematic masterpiece. The story draws you in and it's breath-taking to look at. Some slow moments, but for me it's never dull. The extended version adds so much more depth to the supporting characters, it's well worth a look.
Whether your watching the long version or the really long version, this movie is exceptional. And whether you believe the theory or not, it's hard to deny its power of persuasion. Absolutely riveting.
Wonderfully layered basketball, sorry, real-life documentary. Full of surprising twists and turns that if they happened in a regular movie, you couldn't accept them. Excellent.
Still one of the greatest serial killer movies and you don't see any of the killings, only the aftermath. Stellar performances all around with an ending that still makes me hold my breath everytime I watch it. The DVD commentary with Fincher and Pitt is very enjoyable as well.
One of my faves. It's poetic watching the three main stories connect and intertwine. Good twists, great cast. The Night Owl interrogation scene is classic.
This movie still blows me away. With every viewing, I now know what's coming, but I continually keep trying to put things together. Totally original, and has been copied many times since, but never equalled. Guy Pierce is perfect.
Fantastic ensemble drama, every performance is pitch-perfect with Michael Pena being a stand-out. I am moved and find myself holding my breath during certain scenes every time I watch it.
