15 Movies I've Seen That Have Stuck With Me
The following is a list of 15 movies that have left such an strong impression on me after watching them:
1. THE THIRD MAN (1949) First saw this in a film interpretation class I took in my freshman year of college 23 years ago and has been among my top 5 all-time best films ever since.
2. PSYCHO (1960) Unforgettable; I usually try to watch this whenever it airs on TCM. It's remains suspensful and disturbing to this day.
3. HALLOWEEN (1978) The first horror flick that kept me awake most of the night.
4. A CLOCKWORK ORANGE (1971) One of my favorite Stanley Kubrick films. It's shocking, disturbing, bizarre and funny.
5. BURN! (1969) Most thought-provoking film on the slave trade, colonialism and it's after effcts. It pulls no punches.
6. THE BATTLE OF ALGIERS (1966) This feels more like a newsreel documentary that actual film. It's history as it happens.
7. SID AND NANCY (1986) Film by Alex Cox is the most disturbing one I've seen on drug addiction.
8. THE WILD BUNCH (1969) By far, the first Hollywood-produced western to depict the rawness and brutality of violence.
9. OVERLORD (1975) Was blown away when I first was this film. A unique war movie with a dream-like feel to it.
10. SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE (2008) To me, like many, this was an unexpected surprise. Very original and unique. Never saw anything like it before.
11. MORE (1969) Beautifully-filmed; depicts the pleasures and ugliness of drug use.
12. BRING ME THE HEAD OF ALFREDO GARCIA (1974) A modern-day Western; by far the most off-beat and disturbing film of Sam Peckinpah's career.
13. LENNY (1974) Beautifully filmed black-and-white biopic of Lenny Bruce.
14. THE GREAT SILENCE (1968) Never was a Spaghetti western that was so brutal and bleak. The only film I saw in which the bad guys won at the end.
15. THE PROPOSITION (2005) Was also blown away after seeing this Aussie western. Moving soundtrack by Nick Cave.
