M (1931, Unrated)
You need a lot of patience to watch this film even though it is only 95min. The version of this I saw was the worst quality of film I have ever seen: It looked as if someone filmed a projection of the original film with another old and bad quality film. There are some long 'meeting' scenes with a lot of dialogue that was not included with the subtitles. The subtitles were pretty horrible and I am sure the film would be much better to someone who knows German. Regardless of these hurdles and considering the time it was filmed, this piece is fantastic!! The kidnapping scenes are hauntingly well filmed, and it's excellently acted by Peter Lorre. Analyzes the citizens' responses to dealing with a child murderer. |

Call Her Savage (1932) (1932, Unrated)
Clara's character, with profound similarities to her actual life, is perhaps a firecracker flying off the handle at times (which was rather entertaining! I laughed), but ultimately a victim of men and of circumstance. She lives her life attempting to be true to her self, but in the process is used by men for her beauty and experiences one tragedy after another. The poor girl doesn't always make the best choices but, she is real and honest. |
