1980- A good movie year

One of the greatest sci-fi cheese movies ever! Flash Gordon, Dale Arden and Dr. Hans Zarkov team up to stop Ming the Merciless from blowing up the earth! While the ruler of the universe, Ming, sets his sights on Dale, Flash finds some allies amongst Ming's underlings while racing against the countdown clock. Max Von Sydow is great as the devilish Ming. Sam Jones is perfectly cheesy and hot as the macho footballer, Flash. Melody Anderson is equally cheesy as the helpless dame with moxie- Dale. Future James Bond Timothy Dalton has a good part as Prince Barin. Bonus points for the soundtrack by Queen!

One of my favorite horror films. Lots of travelers seem to go missing near farmer Vincent and his sister's motel. Their relative, Bruce is the local sheriff. Bruce stops by to get some of Vincent's delicious smoked jerky, a regional favoriite. While he's there, he checks out the young blonde survivor of a motorcycle crash, Terry. She's recuperating at Vincent and Ida's while mourning the loss of her boyfriend in the crash. Meanwhile, the local meat inspector comes by for an inspection... Rory Calhoun is great as Vincent, and Nancy Parsons (Porky's) is wonderfully creepy as Ida. Look for bit parts by Wolfman Jack and John Ratzenberger (Cliff from Cheers). Definitely a cult B-movie: campy and cheesy and funny! Of course, you get plenty of gore too- my fave is the pig's head!

A great movie with a touch of cheese. The acting and story are pretty damn good. The tunes are catchy and fit well with the film's 50s-60s time period. Ray Sharkey really shines in this role as the producer/ idolmaker. Peter Gallagher and Joe Pantoliano (The Sopranos) had their debut in this movie and played their parts well. Catch a small part by Marcia from the Brady Bunch. If you're into musical biographies, this just might be the movie for you!

Fun movie about three friends who have some major financial problems and scheme to commit a robbery at the local mall. Featuring oscar winner Jessica Lange, 70s SNL castmember Jane Curtin, and Susan Saint-James (who would join Jane later in the sitcom Kate and Allie)- all playing their parts well. Richard Benjamin plays Jessica's over-sexed Veterinarian husband being his cheesy self. Fred Willard is good as Susan's boyfriend and Dabney Coleman actually plays a nice guy- a cop who is Jane's love interest. Eddie Albert has a cute part as Susan's war vet dad. Also a fun bit part by 70s SNL's Garrett Morris. It's chock full o' 70s actors and themes-making this one amusing, for its time. Filmed in Oregon.
