Kundun (1997,  PG-13)
Kundun
more spiritual than Seven Years in Tibet, and more foccused into the early life of the 14th Dalai Lama, and his fight against Chinese invasions.
its a remarkable achievement by Scorsese, and those who seen the qatsi trilogy, the hand of Phillip Glass is very recognizable here.

Alien Resurrection (1997,  R)
Alien Resurrection
it really should have ended with the third. its not bad, but it isn't that much good either. it is over-fantasized, too much unlikely, and it is way out of the original Alien context. Jeunet also added some comedic lines, which was stupid, for what was supposed to be an horror sci-fi. 2 and half stars because the alien creature was way better recreated than any previous Alien. hurrah to modern special effects...

Viagem ao Princípio do Mundo (Journey to the Beginning of the World)(Voyage to the Beginning) (1997,  Unrated)
Viagem ao Princípio do Mundo (Journey to the Beginning of the World)(Voyage to the Beginning)
the last Mastroianni's appearance in a film before his death, and what an honnour it should have been for Manoel de Oliveira, and even the other way around. two masters of the cinema, working together, for the first and last time.

Oliveira has a very reflective style in directing his films for what i've noticed. they're very slow paced, the lines are indirect and somehow poetic, and sometimes the characters speak to themselves and even for the camera. This Voyage isn't a masterpiece, its more like a life thought.
