love it or hate it, and judgeing by cinema showing i went to and was quite full, people just dont get it, they left in droves, and i guess what, i think its marvellous, nicole kidman plays grace, a mafia boss daughter, on the run, she ends up hiding in dogville a small comunity, they take her in, but under certain circumstances, one is, she be a slave for everybody inn the town, doing deeds and dirty jobs, as time goes on, demands get bigger, and true coolours of all involved come fully out, whats really interesting about this film, and what i think many to walk out, is the stage play setting, no sets, just props and markings on floor telling us where barns and houses are set, even a tree, and i suppose weird to people unprepared these actors act like theres sets, there. so actors pretending to open doors order of the day. and at 3 hours long not a simple watch. but i loved every minute of it, superb cast, kidman is really great as grace. phillip baker hall, jeremy davies, and paul bettamy also joining in, story is always engageing, and when it does loose momentum, it picks up with something interesting happening, we never leave that one set, so reasly clever, and whenever new charactors enter story, it also perks up, 1st part of a trilogi, by lars von trior, his second manderlay used same format but with bryss dallas howard, as grace, not as great but interseting, a third part coming soon, maybe back with kidman, interesting to note these storys are commentating on america, a great concept done perfectly, give it a try, especially for the ending, very good ending
why am i recomending this version,, the reason being, its more violent, not sure of everything diferent, but the crazy 88s scene where the bride goes mental on there arses, is so much more violent and whole scene in colour too, unlike western audiences experience of scene, i guee the japanese can handle it aparently, limbs coming off, blood flying, its great, so to all kill bill lfans check this out, it wasent a style choice for tarentino to turn to black and white, he was forced, and thats not good, great film as well
a film about nothing boredom, as 2 americans stuck in tokyo meet andtheres a connection there, a great travel film, tokyo looking great and used to great efect, bill murrey using his skills as a comedian, but not letting it all out, are these 2 people in love, or are they good mates, youll be debating this for a long time, great film from sophia coppola
