2003 Faves and Raves
This was an awesome year for movies, but I say that every year! There was Charlize Theron's embodiment of Aileen Wournos and Christina Ricci's underated performance. Clint Eastwood's direction of the book Mystic River, which was a great read. I wanted to find Nemo, ride a whale, and kick butt like the Bride. Like everyone else, I too, was trying to decipher the Matrix. I will always take the red pill. All the Real Girls was a quiet movie that really touched me. David Gordon Green is proving himself to be a sublime director after his brilliant George Washington. Thirteen blew me away! At the end of the year, my favorite movie ended up being Lost In Translation. It was perfect in every way in its depiction of loneliness and making that instinctive connection with a complete stranger in a strange land. The movie that is closest to my heart is Charlotte Sometimes.
