The Lake House (2006, PG)
A very good love story with fine acting. Some seem to question the whole time travel side of it a bit too much and it may confuse some. It's a great story and quite similar to Sandra Bullock's other recent film Premonition. |

Hatchet (2006, R)
Tagged as an old school American horror this definitely felt like watching an older horror film along the lines of Friday the 13th. However mixed with some very over the top gore from more recent horror films and you get this. Featuring cameos from Robert Englund, Tony Todd and Kane Hodder. There are plenty of jokes, gore and all the other ingredients that horror fans love about slasher films in this. |

World Trade Center (2006, PG-13)
Not the greatest of films to watch, but due to the fact it is based on one of the most shocking events in recent history makes it compelling viewing. It's not ladden with tons of news footage from the day but caputures the shock and scale of what happened very well. |

Bloodrayne (2006, R)
Another pretty bad Uwe Boll film, but not his worst! Had a lot of promise with a strong cast and based on a cool vampire hack and slash game. However this is pretty poor, none of the "stars' give a half decent performance and the fight choreography is very lame compared to most films of today, no energy or passion, very slow. There is a fair bit of blood, a Meat Loaf cameo and half decent CGI and that is it! Stick with Blade! |

The Night Listener (2006, R) |

Catacombs (2008, R)
I think this had potential with a good location for a horror, but overall it's no where near what it could have been. If this was a short story it might have been better but even at 85mins it feels way too long. The majority of the film features the girl running and screaming through tunnels in the darkness.....followed by more running through dark tunnels! The twist ending did start to become a bit obvious, well the first part anyway, and it has been done much better in many other horrors. If you did like this check out the more like this section. |

Lucky Number Slevin (2006, R) |

| 77 |
Turistas (Paradise Lost) (2006, R)
A very good horror, although not as scary or gory as I thought it was going to be. Similar theme to hostel in that some backpacking tourists run into trouble off the beaten track and soon wish they never left home. If you liked Hostel or the Texas chainsaw massacre remake this is similar to those in many ways. |

Unknown (2006, Unrated)
A very good if short thriller about 5 guys who wake up in a warehouse with short term memory loss. They deduct that 2 of them are hostages and 3 are kidnappers, but who is who? |

All the Boys Love Mandy Lane (2006, R)
I'm really surprised at a lot of the average reviews for this. Maybe the hardcore horror fans were expecting a lot more gore, higher death toll, or maybe it's because this doesn't even feel like a true horror film. However I really enjoyed it and felt it was quite original with a great ending. It does remind me of another film with a similar ending but can't remember it right now. This is a very good film, well shot, with a good cast and a rememberable ending! |

El Laberinto del Fauno (Pan's Labyrinth) (2006, R)
A very enjoyable film, that is well directed and has all round good production levels. It's almost like two films in one running side by side. It would have been a bit more interesting to see more of the fantasy characters and their world in which they live in. The film can be quite bloody and violent at times to which was a surprise, this is definitely for an adult audience. |

The Devil Wears Prada (2006, PG-13) |

The Flock (2008, R)
For a straight to DVD film this is actually a pretty good thriller. Gere and Claire Danes give good performances about a tough subject matter. They monitor sex offenders in the community, when a teenage girl is kidnapped in the area their suspicions are raised. A bit slow at the start but the second half of the film is good cat and mouse stuff. Don't expect much of Avril Lavigne in this though, a one scene cameo is all you get from her in this. |

The Break-Up (2006, PG-13)
A very funny Rom-com without being too soppy. A lot of funny scenes that both sexes should enjoy as a couple try to get back at each other over their break up. A film many will relate to as the plans to out do each other keep escalating all the time as neither want to leave their apartment. Have to say though I think Jennifer had a body double for the nude scene, well some of it! Similar to War of the roses, What happens in Vegas. |

Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties (2006, PG)
A surprisingly good part animated comedy based on the Garfield comic strip. I liked this one more than the first one. This has plenty of other animals being voiced over by a range of well known actors including Bob Hoskins as a British bulldog and Vinnie Jones as a rottweiler, what else? With Bill Murray voicing Garfield. Perfect for kids and older fans of Garfield. |
