No Country for Old Men (2007, R)
Slow, beautifully paced and brilliant. The Coens are true masters. That this film is allowed to breathe is its true genius. It also doesnt treat it's audience like a bunch of dumb 12 year old kids. A smart and powerful "grown up" movie. hypnotic in it's structure and pacing and definately creates a powerful atmosphere. When I think of this film I just hear the sound of wind blowing across the prarie. One of the best of 2007, for sure. |

Helvetica (2007, Unrated)
Great, simple idea for a Documentary, just maybe not feature length material. After about 40 minutes it really just drags and becomes a struggle to finish. YEA.. I get it.. there is HElvetica Fonts all around us..got it within the first 20 minutes, yet the film continues showing these long montages of endless Helvetica everywhere. STOP!! |

The Mist (2007, R)
The ending is so devestating that it turns this Twilight Zone episode into a true Horror film. It is so painful that it makes you almost HATE the film, but you still cannot deny that it is so well crafted that the sickness you feel is all part of the plan. I still have no idea how I can rate this thing. |

The TV Set (2007, R)
WOW!! This film depicts everything that SICKENS me about Hollywood. Very true to life. Its like oyu just keep getting stabbed with a knife deeper and deeper everytime someone has "notes" or "concerns". Abravise and devastating this film truly says it all with an incredible wit. I cant imagine that Hollywood enjoys seeing films like this that hit very close to home and exposes them for the retarded frauds that they are. |

I Am Legend (2007, PG-13)
YES, the CGI bugged me. Sorry. I did, however really like the Christian symbolism that no one seems to be discussing. "The Cure is in the Blood". Ha, that says it all right there. Overall, I dont think the theatrical canvas helped this story. It lacked an EPIC feel, which stories about the end of the world really should have. I would like to see it play out over 6 hours or so to give it the proper perspective it deserves. In the end I like it, much to my suprise, even though I think the CGI is abyssmal. Will Smith was great as well. |

Norbit (2007, PG-13)
It was inevitable that I would eventually get around to seeing this flick, as I am a life long Eddie fan. As expected this is pretty awful crap for the most part. I had a few |

Fido (2006, R)
This is a hillarious and extremely dark comedy that is kind of in search of a better movie. The performances are great, especially Billy Connelly as the title character who with only grunts and wails can convey a lot of information and emotion. Not a great film but very funny and a biting satire of the 50s and continuing consertavie ideology. Everything seems turned on it's head. Great job at re-creating the 50s-60s as well. this is a must for Zombie movie fans as it is a completely new spin on the genre. |

Hostel: Part II (2007, R)
How is this entertainment? Depraved, disgusting and over the top. What does a film like this do for an unstable person? This is basically a snuff film. It's competently made, but I just dont see why anyone and how anyone could enjoy this. I saw the UNRATED version and it's the most graphic, sick thing Ive ever seen. |

Shoot 'Em Up (2007, R)
Oh how I hated this moronic tripe. It's only redeeming value is that Monica Bellouci is so amazingly gorgeous. Sure, it's dumb on purpose, but why do I want to watch a dumb movie than fails to even be the least bit intelligent as it tries towink at it's audience. I can just see people thinking this is great "action". It's not. It's parody action that secretly wants to be John Woo-tastic, but fails miserably in a bath of moronic, souless, cartoonish and weak mockery of what good action can really be. I'm glad this movie was such a raving failure, as I want this kind of shit stopped before people just decide to start making more of these movies with no zero writing skills. Check my brain at the door, you say? No thanks, I like my brain just how it is and movies with, at the very least, some sort of coherent thought process other than, HOW cool would it be to shoot people with Carrots?? REALLY hated this thing. |

Sunshine (2007, R)
This is a near perfect film for me. Really loved it. This is the kind of hard sci-fi flick that is most important to me. The enormity of the dire situation and the sheer size and power that the sun is presented in gives great scope to this very atmospheric film. Great music as well. It's nice to see Cilliam Murphy in something other than the "bad guy" role for a change. Nice performances all around. If I really have to nit-pick the only thing that I didnt like was the film's minor dabbling in the "horr/slasher" genre for a brief period. It doesnt destroy the entire film, but probably could be a little less almost supernatural in its presentation. That overlooked this is definately one of the best sci-fi films out in a few years. |
