The Wrestler (2008,  R)
The Wrestler
rocky showed the guy living his life, hopeing for that big break, here we see the guy who lived the dream, and now years later the dream and support has left him a trailer park trash, working a job as a store hand, but living some kind of past glory wrestling the halls where he does draw a crowd, his fame and career now bargain basement, hoping for a glimpse of the past, mickey rourke is superb, and certainly deserves best actor, bringing a lot to his charactor in both emotion and the wrestling scenes throughout, most of the time, watching this seemed like a documentary, shot hand held for most part, with gritty and realistic locations, something you only get in independent film, aronofsky diects with little fuss, unlike his others including the fountain, some great scenes to be had, rourke behind the counter of the meat stand, is a highlight, and all wrestling scenes done great, support from marisa tomei, as a stripper friend, whos story is in a way similer to his, some 20 years earlier, and her need to get out, is a good setting, and the few scenes with daughter played by evan raheal wood, tells a nice story. at times you see his payne, and his health taking second to his wrestling, and a film that does it well

Changeling (2008,  R)
Changeling
clint eastwod directs this fasinating tale of a missing child, the returning of child, and the mothers despair as she sees the kid is not her child, and her anguish at the L.A police department, for simply not believing her, as the police department was a very corrupt place, and public opinion, not on there side, it is said, a replacement for her son was given to her, to gain the police department back some much needed respect, and public opinion, this film deals really well, with a mothers despair, and angelina jolie is superb, if ever a role made for oscar, this is it, she does say, this is not my son throughout a awful lot, and crying bucket loads, but it works, certainly her best work for a long time, the film also shows the story of corruptiuon well, and all police and inspectors, either lying through there teth, or realising they simply did the wrong thing in this situation, and there, if theres a film that you want to see to inspire to stand up the man, this is one of them, eastwod directs and with a great eye too, this film looks great, from, downtown losangeles, to deserted ranches, this film is never dull, with a story streching over 8 years, and many charactors coming into play, lots of emotional moments and some hard scenes to watch, child murder, amoung them, a true story of a time gone by, a really great watch

Che: Part One (The Argentine) (2009,  R)
Che: Part One (The Argentine)
exellent, and a superb performance from benicio, as the title charactor, and a film that certainly benefits ffom having two parts, ive yet to see if part 2 will be a worthy film, but this part dealing with che castro and there troops making there way through cuba towards havanna, certainly benefits the extra time devoted to it, making there way across country, spreading there message to the people of cuba, and building there army for the uprising to overthrow the goverment, great detail in there campaign is seen, and inbetween a look at 64s u.n speech, snipets of speeches and comfrontations in this time, put in at good points throughout the film, theres also great set pieces throughout, not just making this a walking and talking pic, and the seige on the nearest point to havanna towards end is a highlight, great directing from soderdgerg, clearly showing he can switch from his ocean 11s to this with ease, benicio is superb, and im sure a oscar could be on the cards, his che is superb, heres looking forward to part 2

The Escapist (2008,  Unrated)
The Escapist
brian cox in a exellent role as a old geezer in prison, seeing a possible escape plan coming into place and the guys he needs to get the plan done, a exellent prison film, the structure is great also, going forward in time to actuall escape, back to plan in planning stages, the obstacles inway, and fellow prisoners spoiling plans, brian cox in role that naturally would have gone to a younger man, shines in this, as do others, direction is well handled, and snappy, and a special mention to the score, a great use to move story forward, and in the final act a nice little twist that fits well and makes it more humen

Cloverfield (2008,  PG-13)
Cloverfield
i though this would fail. doing the blair witch hand held thing and post 911 fear, it dident look good, but they pulled it off, great effects all shot through hand held amature video comes off very well, superb set pieces, and very realistic looking, really puts you in the action, and after film ended. i thought about this film a lot, its true to say the story is not al that, and there motivations dont really add up.but when does any of that ever play well in big disaster films, so a bad plot device is made up for by superb set pieces, the ist attack, the brooklyn bridge, and tower block all great examples, anyone who thught spielbergs war of the worlds was great will love this, action scenes with emotion, thats what we get here, and a film very relevent to current events over this decade, check this out at cinema, its a experience, no dodgy downloads please, it really wont work,
