1
The Dark Knight (2008,  PG-13)
The Dark Knight
This movie is the complete package. It creates a great storyline besides the Batman/Joker story. It advances the Batman mythology nicely. Ledger is incredible as the Joker. I love the dark grittiness of Nolan's Gotham. I hope he and Bale continue to work together for a long time to come.
2
Iron Man (2008,  PG-13)
Iron Man
OK, this is one of the best comic adaptations ever. I never really got into the comic, but I am a fan of this movie. The effects look incredible. Downey Jr. Bridges are perfectly cast. Oh, stay through all the credits too. Then end will totally geek you out!
3
Slumdog Millionaire (2008,  R)
Slumdog Millionaire
A very well made film. I liked the way the story played out and kept my interest throughout. The music complemented the action nicely. I also liked the idea of everything you need is laid out before you in life if you can open your eyes to see. I can see why this film won best picture.
4
In Bruges (2008,  R)
In Bruges
Good script, good characters. In the same vein as Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels or Snatch, just with more meaning.
5
Cloverfield (2008,  PG-13)
Cloverfield
Very entertaining movie. I liked how it was filmed. This is the movie "Godzilla (1998)" should have been. It definitely keeps your attention.
6
Quantum of Solace (2008,  PG-13)
Quantum of Solace
This is a good continuation of Casino Royale. This movie follows the more Bourne than Bond formula, tight shot fight scenes, lots of running and jumping, quick cuts. This is a quality action film I can recommend. It is missing classic bond elements like gadgets, Q and some of Bond's quips.
7
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008,  PG-13)
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Very enjoyable story. It's a good self exploring tale with some great acting. I like Fincher's directing style. It reminded me to Big Fish, so that maybe we why I liked this movie.
8
Hellboy II: The Golden Army (Hellboy 2) (2008,  PG-13)
Hellboy II: The Golden Army (Hellboy 2)
Visually this movie is just as outstanding as Pan's Labyrinth. I really enjoy the immersive world he creates. The Troll market had more creatures going on than the creature cantina. The tooth fairies were also pretty damn cool. I really enjoyed watching this movie, a very fun experience. Perhaps the story was lacking, but everything else made up for it.
9
Forgetting Sarah Marshall (2008,  R)
Forgetting Sarah Marshall
Pretty funny. Not quite as good as Superbad, but up there. It had some good lines. Worth checking out.
10
The Bank Job (2008,  R)
The Bank Job
Excellent bank heist movie. Maybe not as fast paced as "Italian Job", but a quality story.
11
Bolt (2008,  PG)
Bolt
I thought this was a very well made, well paced movie. The animation is top notch. Travolta does a great job with the voice acting. I saw in 3D and the visuals are outstanding. I highly recommend seeing the 3D version. I liked the shots the movie took at cats. Cats suck. Probably the best animated movie I've see this year.
12
The Boy in the Striped Pajamas (The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas) (2008,  PG-13)
The Boy in the Striped Pajamas (The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas)
This movie will really get to you. The acting by the kids is outstanding.
13
Miracle at St. Anna (2008,  R)
Miracle at St. Anna
A very good war movie. the reviews weren't very good, so I waited on this one. Glad I finally did see it though. It could have been a little tighter, but worth watching.
14
Appaloosa (2008,  R)
Appaloosa
Pretty solid western. I like Ed Harris and Viggo Mortensen team up. The story is a little different than your typical western. Good acting, strong script.
15
Kung Fu Panda (2008,  PG)
Kung Fu Panda
This is a very fun movie. I enjoyed the easy, natural comedy of Jack Black voicing the main character (and I am not a huge Black fan either). Definitely one of the better animated movies in a while.
16
The Incredible Hulk (2008,  PG-13)
The Incredible Hulk
Much better and more entertaining than the 2003 version. Some major improvements have been made to make this a top notch super hero movie. I like the homage paid to the series, and I like that Banner is a fugitive. The effects are pretty damn good. Would rather see Jennifer Connelly again rather than Liv Tyler.
17
The Wrestler (2008,  R)
The Wrestler
Great acting from Rourke. A very well made movie. Love the idea of someone stuck in life so bad it becomes the end of them. Evolve or devolve. It's the Freebird syndrome. It is a little slow paced, but the story keeps you interested. Marissa Tomei is still smoking hot and enjoyed her scenes especially.
18
Body of Lies (2008,  R)
Body of Lies
Quality spy/action flick. I really liked the story and I thought DiCaprio did a great job acting. It reminded me of Spy Games. Makes you think about how much of this goes on that we don't know, or don't want to know about. Definitely worth checking out.
19
The Reader (2008,  R)
The Reader
Good story and great acting. I enjoyed this movie much.
20
The Visitor (2008,  PG-13)
The Visitor
Great movie, grat acting. Not a fast moving flick, but an overall well made film worth watching. A great character study film.
21
Wanted (2008,  R)
Wanted
A very entertaining, stylish movie. I enjoyed watching it and I thought the stunts were top pretty imaginative. It is similar to the Matrix, but better than either of the Matrix sequels.
22
WALL-E (2008,  G)
WALL-E
Very cool world they made here. I like the idea of humans being fat, lazy and helpless. I saw it at the drive in, so I would like to see it at an indoor theater to fully appreciate the visuals. Overall fun and entertaining.
23
RocknRolla (2008,  R)
RocknRolla
Along the same lines as Snatch and Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, but not quite on the same level. Kind of drags in the middle, but overall good flick.
24
Transporter 3 (2008,  PG-13)
Transporter 3
Statham knows what to deliver to his audiences. This is an improvement over part 2, but not as good as the original. It's a fun action flick worth seeing, but I don't see a need to transport anything else.
25
Role Models (2008,  R)
Role Models
Pretty funny movie overall. It kept me laughing pretty much throughout the entire movie. Elizabeth Banks is pretty hot in this movie too. Other than the gay ending, it was a good time. I recommend it with a whispering eye.
26
Choke (2008,  R)
Choke
I had to think about what I wanted to say about this movie. I did like it. It is in a similar style to Fight Club (which is one of my favorite movies ever). It's a different movie that I see could rub people the wrong way. It deals with sex bluntly. Sam Rockwell was very good in his role. So anyway, I did like it and would recommend it to some but not all.
27
Zack and Miri Make a Porno (2008,  R)
Zack and Miri Make a Porno
Pretty good comedy by Kevin Smith. I liked the first half better than the second. Basically, some raunchy, snappy Smith dialogue, some raunchy sex stuff and some romance. I liked how the two main characters start to fall for each other. Not great, but entertaining. I really liked Elizabeth Banks in this movie, I think she did a great job.
28
The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian (2008,  PG)
The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian
Better than the first movie. Visually cleaner and better effects. It didn't really get going until the third act. Nice battle scene at the end.
29
Tropic Thunder (2008,  R)
Tropic Thunder
Actually pretty damn funny. I enjoyed how much fun it poked at Hollywood. Really good performances from Robert Downey Jr. and Tom Cruise. Get there early to watch the previews.
30
Frozen River (2008,  R)
Frozen River
Great acting and great drama. The story gets your interest fast and holds it throughout the entire film. Worth checking out for sure.
31
Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist (2008,  PG-13)
Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist
Not as bad as I expected. Overall a pretty light flick that is enjoyable to watch. Basically a teen High Fidelity without as much depth, but some enjoyable scenes. Music is good.
32
The Forbidden Kingdom (2008,  PG-13)
The Forbidden Kingdom
Good idea overall putting Jet Li and Jackie Chan together. Bad idea putting an American teenager in the mix. The Li/Chan fight scenes were a true work of art. The chicks in this flick are very easy on the eyes. Get rid of the round eye and you got a much better movie.
33
The X-Files: I Want to Believe (The X Files 2) (2008,  PG-13)
The X-Files: I Want to Believe (The X Files 2)
Decent flick Good to see Scully and Mulder together. Mulder has some good lines. Entertaining but not great.
34
Death Race (2008,  R)
Death Race
You got Jason Statham, you got cars and guns, hard to go wrong with that combination. It misses the political themes of the original, but there are some awesome car shoot outs. I would like to have seen the viewer reaction, like Running Man. Overall, worth checking out, a good man movie.
35
The Wackness (2008,  R)
The Wackness
This is a different movie, but pretty good. It starts out slow, and it's paced kind of slow, but it has interesting characters. I really liked Ben Kingsley's character. He by far was the most interesting. It was also fun to see Mary-Kate Olsen as a hippie druggie having sex with Ben Kingsley in a phone booth. I might relate a little more to it if I lived in NY. Overall a interesting, different movie.
36
Twilight (2008,  PG-13)
Twilight
Not great, but not terrible either. Watchable but forgettable. I'm not sure what all the fans of the book were upset about, I felt it was a good synopsis of the book and basically followed it pretty close. I don't like how the vampires can walk around in daylight, that's just wrong.
37
Milk (2008,  R)
Milk
Great acting. Interesting look at something I didn't know much about. Sean Penn gets on my nerves though.
38
Hancock (2008,  PG-13)
Hancock
A very likable movie. I like Will Smith as a jerk, and I like the angle of the enti-superhero. I didn't like the plot twist that much or the pseudo bad guys, but overall enjoyable.
39
Felon (2008,  R)
Felon
Pretty damn good prison movie. Gritty and good acting. Val Kilmer's best role since Tombstone and Heat. Worth renting.
40
Marley & Me (2008,  PG)
Marley & Me
Overall and enjoyable flick. It delivers exactly what you expect. It's a good flick for the family. The book is better and has more Marley moments. I defy you not to cry. Oh, I can't believe that was Kathleen Turner, holy cow did she let herself go.
41
The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (2008,  PG-13)
The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor
Decent sequel, entertaining. I thought the special effects were top notch. Not a lot of substance, but it was a fun ride.
42
Burn After Reading (2008,  R)
Burn After Reading
Good idea and pretty funny in parts, but not the Coen brother's best work. Brad Pitt and George Clooney carry most of the movie.
43
Bigger, Stronger, Faster* (2008,  PG-13)
Bigger, Stronger, Faster*
A very interesting and well put together opinion piece. Much in the same vein as Supersize Me and the Micheal Moore movies. I enjoyed how Bell presented the information, but didn't make condemning conclusions. It does make you look at these "Heroes" in a different light.
44
Jumper (2008,  PG-13)
Jumper
I guess I was expecting the worst here, but actually not that bad. Some good action sequences make up for Christensen's flat acting. Worth renting.
45
Doomsday (2008,  R)
Doomsday
Average apocalypse action flick. Basically a cross between Escape from NY, 28 Days Later and Mad Max, but not as good. I think they actually used the music from both those movies.
46
Swing Vote (2008,  PG-13)
Swing Vote
Pretty good political satire. I like how it starts, and it does poke much fun at the political parties. It gets muddled down in the middle a bit, but recovers at the end.
47
The Day the Earth Stood Still (2008,  PG-13)
The Day the Earth Stood Still
A decent remake, but not great. I like the progression of updating this film, and most of it works. Too much of the kid, it gets tiring. Also, hearing Keanu Reeves speaking Chinese dialog was really funny. That was almost worth the price of admission. In the end, it just comes up a little short and the original is still better.
48
Max Payne (2008,  PG-13)
Max Payne
Average action cop flick. I haven't played the games, so only going by the movie. It tried for the feel of Constantine or Sin City, but doesn't quite pull it off. Some good visuals, worth renting.
49
Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008,  PG)
Star Wars: The Clone Wars
Not much more than an extended episode of the current series. Doesn't add that much to the Star Wars legacy. Some really bad dialogue.
50
The Spirit (2008,  PG-13)
The Spirit
Visually creative and worth watching for the visuals. The story didn't do much for me. i did like the film noir style and use of color. Good to see Edgar from 24. Good but not great.
51
Pride and Glory (2008,  R)
Pride and Glory
Mediocre crime drama. Pretty depressing and long. Ed Norton is good as always, but it really drags and the story has been done better in other movies.
52
The Rocker (2008,  PG-13)
The Rocker
Mildly entertaining and enjoyable. Predictable, but some funny parts. Not sure if I would say run out and see it, but I have seen worse.
53
Journey to the Center of the Earth (Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D) (2008,  PG)
Journey to the Center of the Earth (Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D)
Above average action flick. It was made with the family in mind, no real violence, swearing or sex. Moderately entertaining, but much better than that Indiana Jones piece of crap.
54
Get Smart (2008,  PG-13)
Get Smart
Funny, decent plot, good action for a comedy. I thought Carell was good as Maxwell Smart. I would recommend seeing this as a matinée or at the cheap movies.
55
80 Minutes (2008,  Unrated)
80 Minutes
Well, first of all, I thought I got 88 minutes with Pacino. This was like Punk'd combined with Crank. Ok, but not great by any means.
56
Street Kings (2008,  R)
Street Kings
This one was off the radar, I caught it on HBO. Not great and filled with cliches. Kind of a waste of a lot of talent.
57
Baby Mama (2008,  PG-13)
Baby Mama
It's an entertaining, funny movie. There are some genuinely funny scenes that help carry the movie along. It goes a little long and starts to loose direction toward the end, but enjoyable over all. Worth a rental or at the cheapies.
58
Speed Racer (2008,  PG)
Speed Racer
This was a pretty fun movie. The effects were mind blowing. One thing about the Wachowski Bros., you can tell they are fans of movies. Nothing new as far as plot, but pretty damn nice to watch on the big screen.
59
Be Kind Rewind (2008,  PG-13)
Be Kind Rewind
An OK, cutesy movie. The best parts were the "Sweded" remakes. Go to the website and watch the movies, save yourself some time and money.
60
W. (2008,  PG-13)
W.
Interesting point of view plays out in this film. Dreyfuss is spot on as Cheney. Not a great movie, but interesting to watch. Evidently only one guy in the White House knew what was going on, and it wasn't W.
61
The Ruins (2008,  R)
The Ruins
I was a tad disappointed in this one. The buck was much better, as usual. The trailer showed all the scary parts of this flick. Could have been better.
62
The Burrowers (2008,  R)
The Burrowers
I like the idea of the Western and horror. This movie had some good ideas, but didn't really go anywhere. I like the way it was shot, it had a good feel. Bummer of an ending. It had potential, but didn't quite make it.
63
Stuck (2008,  R)
Stuck
Interesting premise. Based on a true event about a woman that hits a homeless guy and he gets stuck in her windshield. Then she drives home and keeps him in the garage for a few days. It's kind of gross in parts. Interesting but not great.
64
The Happening (2008,  R)
The Happening
Well, another disappointing outing for M. Night Shyamalanadingdong. Hey does a good job establishing tone and tension, but then he forgets what to do with it, and give us a boring disjointed ending. I got tired of Zooey D. looking bewildered at the camera. The lion attack scene was too hokey for words. The only thing happening in this flick is me being bored.
65
10,000 B.C. (2008,  PG-13)
10,000 B.C.
OK, this wasn't all that bad. I've seen much worse. Having just seen a similar movie, Pathfinder, I would recommend that over this one. The effects were pretty good over all, not great though. There were a couple scenes lifted from 300. I think the Persians should get a lawyer.
66
Superhero Movie (2008,  PG-13)
Superhero Movie
Not as awful as expected, but still bad. It actually had some funny parts. It's too bad it was such a scene by scene parody of Spider-man. I wish it spent more time with Tracy Morgan and the X-Men side, rather than a quick sight gag shoved in for no apparent reason. Still better than Spider-man 3.
67
The Love Guru (2008,  PG-13)
The Love Guru
You know, it's bad, but not entirely awful. Typical Mike Myers style comedy. Most of the laughs come from the actors in movie pretending to find Myers' jokes amusing Timberlake's character was pretty funny though.
68
Semi-Pro (2008,  R)
Semi-Pro
Not very good or funny. I think Ferrell went to the lane one too many times.
69
Rambo (Rambo IV) (2008,  R)
Rambo (Rambo IV)
This falls into the unnecessary sequel category. It seems instead of coming up with a new idea or a good script, Sly just made Rambo bloodier. Some of the blood/kills borderline comedy. The dialogue is almost as bad as a George Lucas script.
70
Australia (2008,  PG-13)
Australia
This movie was truly an epic...an epic waste of time. It was directed by Baz Luhrmann, the same guy that did Moulin Rouge, and I hate that movie. It has the same gay style beginning and it never gets interesting. Many of the scenes look terribly fake. Plus it goes on about 40 minutes too long. Not as disappointing as Indiana Jones, but just as bad.
71
Meet the Spartans (2008,  PG-13)
Meet the Spartans
I don't think there was any point in the movie where it was funny. it was just product placement and shots at current events. In a couple years no one will know what the hell they are talking about. The makers should watch a Mel Brooks film to see how to make a parody. also, IT NEVER ENDS!
72
Lost Boys 2: The Tribe (2008,  R)
Lost Boys 2: The Tribe
Nothing new here. This movie has nothing to do with the original except Corey Feldman, and stealing some lines. Like Meatballs 2 and 3, Caddyshack 2, and Godfather 3, this sequel never should have been made.
73
Bangkok Dangerous (2008,  R)
Bangkok Dangerous
How about Bangkok Ridiculous. It's almost painful to watch Cage in this role. It's pretty much an uninteresting cluster.
74
Disaster Movie (2008,  PG-13)
Disaster Movie
The title says it all. I didn't laugh at one of the so called gags. You know it's bad when half the movie is cuts to reaction shots of the people in the movie reacting to the so called jokes. OK, I admit this is worse than Crystal Skull, but I had no expectations for this movie, so it wasn't as much of a let down.
75
Witless Protection (2008,  PG-13)
Witless Protection
Pretty bad as expected, but not the worst comedy I have seen. He did manage to get in Micheal Vick and Micheal Jackson jokes.
76
Happy-Go-Lucky (2008,  R)
Happy-Go-Lucky
I want my two hours of my life back. This is one of the most pointless, rambling movies I have ever seen.
77
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008,  PG-13)
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
I have a better title. Indiana Jones and the pile of crap. You think after 20 years, Spielberg, Lucas and Ford was come up with something better to offer. The CG is simply terrible. Blanchett is the only one that acts like she is actually interested in being in the movie. Karen Allen appears like she is drunk and is painful to watch. You can tell Lucas wrote the script because the dialog is terrible. I am going to forget this movie was made and watch the first three good ones. Oh and screw Shia LaBeouf and his stupid monkeys.
