Knowing (2009,  PG-13)
Knowing
A very enjoyable film and although a big budget film it doesn't overload you with SFX scenes. It's part action, disaster film but with a good solid story line to it. The action/disaster scenes are very intense and not seen on this scale before. Not everyone will enjoy the way it ends but overall a very good film worth seeing on the big screen.

Terminator Salvation (2009,  PG-13)
Terminator Salvation
A very good addition to the series, better than the 3rd. Full of near non-stop action through out. A whole new range of terminators are on show and there are some great SFX/ action scenes. Some might not like the plot as it does differ from the first 3 where the action is pretty much one on one. This is very much a full on war. Go see it.

Taken (2009,  PG-13)
Taken
A very good nitty-gritty action/thriller. It packs a real punch not just for the great action scenes and fights but also for the storyline and good acting. I wasn't convinced at first at casting Liam Neeson in this type of role, but he plays the part of a doting father hell bent on revenge and getting his daughter back very well.

Vacancy 2: The First Cut (2009,  R)
Vacancy 2: The First Cut
A fairly good prequel to the original with one of the killers from the first starring in this. It's pretty straight forward and not as intense as the first but if you liked the first film you should enjoy this. This also stars Agnes Bruckner from The Grudge 2, Venom and Blood & Chocolate.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (2009,  PG-13)
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen
A very good sequel with even more bots and action on a bigger scale. Great SFX again and plenty of funny moments as well. Maybe a slightly less WOW factor second time round after the impact of the first. Very enjoyable and worth seeing on the big screen.
Have to just add don't believe the haters!!!! half star/ 1 star reviews?!? WTF have you seen any films?

Friday the 13th (2009,  R)
Friday the 13th
A very good "re-imaging" NOT a re-make! I can't believe how many people have said it's a remake, Jason wasn't in the first one hello! Rant over.
Comparing it to the original series of films this has a flash back of the ending of the first, for those who haven't seen it shame on you, and has more in common with the 2nd and 3rd installments. I actually enjoyed it, it gives the fans of the original films an updated version of what they loved about the films. There are plenty of inventive death scenes, sex, drugs and boozing with plenty of gorgeous girls in it. I thought it had a bit too much stoner behaviour, which seem to dumb down the film a bit. It has a slick visual style similar to the recent Texas chainsaw remakes, same director, as well as the same style of old gritty locations and sets. Overall a cool update for anyone who was a fan of the original films and better than nearly all of the previous films apart from the first which is a cult classic at least. Definitely one for slasher fans.

My Bloody Valentine 3-D (2009,  R)
My Bloody Valentine 3-D
A pretty average slasher film and definitely based around the 3-D, it uses as many scenes as it can for this effect. I only saw it on DVD but you can just tell what scenes, effects were done for the 3-D parts. Very bloody and gory in places, with a slight twist if you can call it that. Overall pretty good but no doubt more fun in 3-D mode.

The Grudge 3 (2009,  R)
The Grudge 3
An ok 3rd installment, although straight to DVD release. Lower budget but the production is pretty good, but it's just not as creepy as the first two. The boy that appears at times was weird in the first two in this it looks like an older actor was used. The same goes for Kayako, in the first two she was very strange and creepy in this she just looks very white? For those who really liked the first two films.

The International (2009,  R)
The International
I thought this was a good conspiracy action/ thriller with a good cast. It's a very entertaining film with a good plot, it's enjoyable watching all the plot lines unfold and the connections made to take them on to the next lead. The film is shot in many locations including New York, Milan, Turkey and almost has a slight Bond, Bourne ultimatum feel to it. The shoot out at the Guggenheim gallery in New York has been one of the best I've seen since Heat. A solid well made film that should appeal to action, thriller fans or fans of the similar films mentioned.

Doghouse (2009,  Unrated)
Doghouse
A so-so horror comedy with a good array of UK acting talent on show. Ok in parts has some funny scenes and quite gory to in places. Overall just not quite as polished as Severance, Shaun of the dead. One mainly for the guys.
