District 9 (2009,  R)
District 9
One of the most brilliant, original sci fi flicks in a long time. Incredible SPFX , excellent social commentary. Can't recommend this movie enough.
2
Up (2009,  PG)
Up
Freakin' fantastic movie. Has to be on of the best Pixar movies to date. I saw it in 3D and the visuals are simply stunning. Great story, great voice acting, just great all around. A good balance between sentimental and humor.
3
Star Trek (2009,  PG-13)
Star Trek
One of the best of the series. Probably the best since VI. The casting and story make this a great film for both trek fans and non fans. Just an intelligent action summer flick. I think the casting was dead on, except maybe Chekov. I don't like that they altered the Trek time line, but maybe in the next movie or two it will get back on track, or trek. I did get tired of the light shining in my eyes. Also, this is Star Trek, not Jason Bourne, let's keep the camera a little more still. Other than that, this is a rocking flick.
4
Inglourious Basterds (2009,  R)
Inglourious Basterds
Not quite what I expected, but good none the less. Tarantino proves he is still a master of setting up a scene. He is the anti-Micheal Bay. Christoph Waltz was extremely good as the Nazi Colonel. Would like to have seen more of Basterds in action, but overall this is a classic Tarantino flick.
5
Gran Torino (2009,  R)
Gran Torino
Incredible acting by Eastwood. Loved his character. This is an awesome story, should have won more awards.
6
Watchmen (2009,  R)
Watchmen
Incredibly well made adaptation of the graphic novel. The quality of comic based movies continues to improve. Great effects, fight scenes, and script. I thought the characters of Rorschach and The Comedian were very well acted. Also, great soundtrack, the music really meshed with action. However, too much blue schlong.
7
Defiance (2009,  R)
Defiance
Excellent movie about human triumph. Beautifully shot and gritty at the same time. It goes a little Hollywood in a couple scenes, but overall a great movie about the strength of the human spirit.
8
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009,  PG)
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
I liked this movie. Pretty close to the book and good pacing. Not perfect but kept me interested throughout. Directed by David Yates, who did my favorite Potter film, Order of the Phoenix.
9
I Love You, Man (2009,  R)
I Love You, Man
Pretty damn funny. Rudd and Segel are great together on screen. maybe not as funny as Sara Marshall, but still pretty damn funny.
10
Zombieland (2009,  R)
Zombieland
This was a really fun movie. Being a zombie movie fan, I really enjoyed this one. A better sense of humor than Sean of the Dead. Typical zombie movie gore, but not overdone. Woody Harrelson is perfect for his role. A quality zombie-comedy (a zombedy).
11
Taken (2009,  PG-13)
Taken
Good solid action flick. I liked when Neeson goes Jack Bauer. Definitely worth checking out.
12
Underworld: The Rise of the Lycans (2009,  R)
Underworld: The Rise of the Lycans
I think this is the best of the three movies. I liked the fill in story that the first movie touched on. I also liked the history of the Lycans. Not perfect, but pretty good. I did miss Kate Beckinsale in her tight black costume.
13
Terminator Salvation (2009,  PG-13)
Terminator Salvation
This movie starts out awesome. It has a gritty, Road Warrior quality. the SPFX are damn impressive. It takes a unfortunate turn in the third act and the ending is gay. Overall a good flick, but the ending should have been done differently.
14
Angels & Demons (2009,  PG-13)
Angels & Demons
Better than the Divinci Code. Better paced and it has a coherent time line. It followed the book pretty good. It didn't really explain in the movie how Ewan McGregor knew how to fly a helicopter.
15
Bottle Shock (2008,  PG-13)
Bottle Shock
Enjoyable movie, good sense of humor. It was haphazardly edited in a couple spots, but I liked the story. Worth renting.
16
Monsters vs. Aliens (2009,  PG)
Monsters vs. Aliens
Pretty damn funny and well made. I love Seth Rogen as Bob the Blob. I also loved the homage it pays to the B movies of the '50's. I saw it in 3D and I highly recommend the 3D experience.
17
X-Men Origins - Wolverine (2009,  PG-13)
X-Men Origins - Wolverine
Going right down the middle on this one, because that's how this movie feels. It builds nicely with a strong start, then falls apart about the middle. I liked Liev Schrieber as Sabretooth (although they never call him that) and I liked most of the plot. Jackman also does a great job as Logan. It strays from the original story,a nd I wish it spent more time on the Weapon X part of the film. Better than Spidey 2, not as good as any of the X-Men movies.
18
The Hangover (2009,  R)
The Hangover
Decent comedy but not great. I don't know what all the hubbub is about. I found it amusing, but no where near as funny as Sarah Marshall or I Love You Man. Adequate enough to watch once, but that's it.
19
Wonder Woman (2009,  Unrated)
Wonder Woman
Pretty good for a straight to DVD release. Good animation and top quality voice talent. I was surprised that is has a PG-13 rating, but it does earn the rating. Lots of killing and some blood. Not a goody two shoes telling of Wonder Woman's back story. Worth the rental, or get it free from the library like I did.
20
Friday the 13th (2009,  R)
Friday the 13th
Better than anticipated, but still pretty much as expected. I would have to say better than the original.
21
Coraline (2009,  PG)
Coraline
Visually outstanding. Original and creative. Worth watching for the world the movie lives in, but overall it didn't completely peak my interest. Worth renting.
22
Public Enemies (2009,  R)
Public Enemies
The story is good, but the execution is poor. It's about a half hour too long and the movie overall is dull and boring. It was cool seeing the local Wisconsin sites. I was at Mirror lake the night they shot the raid scene. Sweet.
23
Adventureland (2009,  R)
Adventureland
Good music in a relatively likable movie. Not great by any means, but it kind of grows on you. At times it looks more like 1977 than 1987. It introduces a lot of character elements that never get used. Worth checking out for a decent story and soundtrack. Oh yeah, Kristen Stewart looks pretty hot and you get to see side boob.
24
Night at the Museum 2: Battle of the Smithsonian (2009,  PG)
Night at the Museum 2: Battle of the Smithsonian
Not much more to offer than the first one. It has a chance at some good material, but then reverts back to it's old tricks. Hank Azaria is really good, but not worth full admission price.
25
Earth (Disneynature's Earth) (Planet Earth) (2009,  G)
Earth (Disneynature's Earth) (Planet Earth)
Not that this wasn't a good movie, but it's the same as Blue Planet. It's like the best of Blue Planet. I was suggest just renting the TV series. If you watch it on Blu-ray, it will probably even look better than the theater.
26
Last Chance Harvey (2009,  PG-13)
Last Chance Harvey
Pretty much a love movie for old and lonely people. Not really a comedy, kind of depressing. Hoffman and Thompson are good and have a good rapport.
27
Sunshine Cleaning (2009,  R)
Sunshine Cleaning
Another indie movie that just tries to hard to be likable. All the elements are there, but after it's over, I didn't feel the movie had gone anywhere. Amy Adams is hot and spends much time in bras. Stave Zahn is wasted. I wanted to like it, and gave it a chance, but can't quite recommend it.
28
Push (2009,  PG-13)
Push
I started watching this movie, but then I realized I had seen this movie before. It was called Jumper with Aniken Skywalker. Pretty much same basic idea and same results.
29
What Goes Up (2009,  Unrated)
What Goes Up
This movie tries to be one of those cute, quirky, indie movies that everyone claims. to love. It has all the cliches, but is mostly just filled with annoying characters. You do get to see a scantily clad Hilary Duff, but not enough to make up for the rest of the movie. It also has Molly Shannon, one of the least talented actress there is. Skip it.
30
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (2009,  PG-13)
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen
Micheal Bay must be stopped. This movie is incoherent and poorly written. Yes the effects are outstanding, and the slow motion shots of Megan Fox's breasts are worth the price of admission. However, like the first too many humans, not enough robots. When they Transformers are fighting, it's hard to tell who is who. The acting, script, plot, and dialogue are incredibly bad. I did like the fight scenes where the robots tore each other apart and Prime was a bad ass. But so many jump cuts, bad camera angles, bad jokes, etc. ruin the rest of the movie. Plus it is about an half hour too long.
