Funny People (2009, R)
One of those movies I never wanted to end. For anybody whose looked up to comedians and bought comedy albums and been a fan of comedy writers this movies for you. It didn't stick to any kind of past formula really and It truly is a one of a kind movie, for me anyway. Sandler was great as Geroge Simmons and world famous comedian whose movies include Re-do.Merman..I loved that especially the music..spot on. What I like about Apatow is that he knows what the audience has seen before. He doesn't use formulas instead he tries to imagine how things would happen in real life and I like that many films just fool you into thinking anything is possible well ya anything is but it doesn't mean it's likely you'll be the lucky somebody anything happens to. |

District 9 (2009, R)
Movies like this remind me over and over again just how fragile and scared we are as a species. Our first reaction to any new encounter has always been fear. Fear of the public finding out or fear of our "enemies" finding out without ever considering to use it to our advantage..ok Im gonna stop..it's a film review not a thesis on human behavior. The live action and CGI blended very well. I'm a big fan of the shakey camera style, sometimes being real cinematic and grandious isn't enough to sell the picture. It's like being sucked into a real life video game. |

(500) Days of Summer (2009, PG-13)
A full circled relationship movie. That first enocunter. That first Kiss. That first romantic moment.the countless cute moments. That first argument. Those days of just coasting along. The eventual break up. Then the months off. Then you're back together but you don't know where it's going. Two grat actors and great looking people. I just loved his sister being the counselor they never explain the reason reminds me of Stephen Wright in half baked you never know why he's their..wait now that I think of it that's a shitty example but you know what I mean a characters appearance totally opposite to their role in the movie like danny devitto...love that guy. |
