Back to the Future (1985,  PG)
Back to the Future
The BTTF franchise will remain in the hearts of many as a great comedy/drama. Michael J Fox was in his prime here, and Christopher Lloyd is fantastic as the nutty proffessor/scientist. Great fun.

The Breakfast Club (1985,  R)
The Breakfast Club
Im showing my age now hehe. This will always be one of my favourites from the 80's. Just one of those great teen movies that u can watch and enjoy.
3
Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986,  PG)
Ferris Bueller's Day Off
Another one of my fave 80's flicks. Matthew Broderick in one of his earliest roles. Still as cute as a button.

Something Wild (1986,  R)
Something Wild
I enjoyed this when it screened many many moons ago. The tense undercurrent helps push this along. Melanie Griffith's Lulu/Audrey is touching in many ways. A rather dramatic/tense ending, but justified. Great viewing.
5
Pretty in Pink (1986,  PG-13)
Pretty in Pink
One of the many John Hughes collection that came out in the 80's. Your average American teen girl falls for the well to do boy from a the rich list. Molly Ringwald is tops, as is John Cryer, and Andrew McCarthy. Good fun, and sweetly romantic.
6
Say Anything... (1989,  PG-13)
Say Anything...
One of John Cusack's early movies, and he showed promise even then. A strong emotional story, with a pwerhouse performance from John. Also nice use of music, including Depeche Mode's "Stripped" (live).
7
Working Girl (1988,  R)
Working Girl
Great fluffy fun movie that doesnt take itself seriously...and the actors are all having a ball. Sigourney Weaver seems to be enjoying playing the nasty bitchy office boss.
8
Weird Science (1985,  PG-13)
Weird Science
Another quirky teen hit from the 80's. 2 boys make their perfect woman, who ends up helping them in their life (giving them a better view of the world, upping their confidence). Good fun.
9
The Goonies (1985,  PG)
The Goonies
Simply a fun movie, with some likeable characters, and some zany goings on. Love Cyndi Lauper's theme song.

1984 (Nineteen Eighty-Four) (1984,  R)
1984 (Nineteen Eighty-Four)
Grim and opressive...1984 brings justice to George Orwell's great novel. With outstanding performances by John Hurt and Richard Burton...the movie brings us the "futuristic" world foreseen by Orwell where the world is run by "Big Brother", and where brainwashing is the way to keep the masses at bay. Slightly truthful in a way, yet rather chilling. Well before we started getting reality shows, this is chilling in the way that people's lives are under constant scrutiny by the lawmakers. Well made..and bound to be a classic.
11
The Lost Boys (1987,  R)
The Lost Boys
Great start for Keifer Sutherland and Jason Patric. This is a rollicking rollercoaster ride. The music really adds to the feel of the movie, with some top choices!!! Still good fun after 20 years.
12
Footloose (1984,  PG)
Footloose
Your basic fish out of water type story, fleshed out with good performances from Kevin Bacon and Lori Singer as the two teen leads. Good foot tapping soundtrack, and some pretty tacky dance moves, but hey, it was the mid 80's!!!
13
Gremlins (1984,  PG)
Gremlins
Dont let them get wet, and dont feed them after midnight!!! Who can forget those instructions??? One of the great fun creature flicks...works both as a thriller and a comedy!!!
14
Airplane! (1980,  PG)
Airplane!
One of the funniest spoofs ever to hit the screen. It was known as Flying High here in Australia, but what a insanely funny one it is. It spoofed everything from airport disasters movies to war movies, and even Saturday Night Fever. Belly Laugh material.
15
Flashdance (1983,  R)
Flashdance
Steeltown girl goes makes her way to ballet school, with some great dance sequences, and who can forget the audition sequence, which has been parodied endlessly over the years. Top soundtrack as well.
16
Earth Girls Are Easy (1989,  PG)
Earth Girls Are Easy
Zany movie which moves at a break neck pace. Very camp and doesnt take itself seriously. Rompin music soundtrack includes Depeche Mode and Julie Brown. Good fun. Features early appearance of Jim Carrey
