While computer-animation has taken over from the 2D hand-drawn-animation, when Toy Story came out in '95 it was a something new and exciting. New 3D movies are wearing thin but this will forever remain fresh.
Even though 'Beauty', 'Snow White' Lion King' and 'Bambi' are all more intelligent than this, 'Aladdin' appeals more to young boys because of the action/adventure that takes place and its characters, particularly the Genie. So I liked this one more as a child than the other Disney flicks despite it not quite being as good as the others I mentioned. However because of its characters and humour I place this one higher than all other Disney flicks (not including Pixar).
This is the first movie that I watched in cinemas. It is truly one of the greatest animated features ever, and if it wasn't for the action/adventure 'Aladdin', which appealed more to me as a young boy, this would have been my favourite Disney flick. It's more intelligent than 'Aladdin', but who can resist the Genie?
Disney hit its peak during the 90s with 'Beauty' and 'Aladdin' and 'Mermaid' in '89, this one continued its magnificent run of great cartoon films thanks to its magnificent animation and sad, exciting, gripping story of love, death, redemption and justice. Also has one of the great Disney villains.
This movie was the start of Disney's greatest era. It's underwater setting, although in 2D, is a lot more satisfying than in 'Nemo'. 'Beauty' and 'Aladdin' had a lot to live up to after this masterpiece. Sadly you don't see animated movies like this anymore.
Disney's coming-of-age masterpiece has great characters and music numbers. However it's the storytelling and animation that really make the film wonderful.
A very intelligent fantasy movie with amazing animation. It's a great spoof on the classic fairytale stories, or even a spoof on Disney's fairytales. It eclipses all of Pixar's films bar 'Toy Story', which will never be topped. It's way better than its sequels.
A little girl gets lost in a fantasy world that is filled with extraordinary and magical characters. No I'm not talking about 'Alice in Wonderland' or 'The Wizard of Oz'. This movie is 'Spirited Away', and like the aforementioned films the world that is portrayed in the movie is unique and creative. The charcters in particular are inventive, such as the three disembodied heads, the boy who is a dragon, the no-face river spirit who vomits etc. The anime drawings are compelling.
No, it's not as good as the original. However on its own it's fun and sweet, quite like most of Pixar's works. Still, I can't understand how some people can like this more than the first, it's good but the first was a lot more special. I do like this one though.
They've done it again. Pixar are back with yet another cute magical movie with first-class animation and loveable characters. The story is astounding, sending the message of computers domination and the imprtance of maintaing the environment. It's never cheesy.
Pixar are legends when it comes to computer-animation and stories where various beings live among humans like humans do, without humans knowing (everything from toys to fish). This time it's rats in Paris and it's an excellent movie. Like most Pixar movies it includes loveable characters (with great voices, especially Peter O'Toole and Janeane Garofalo), a high-concept script, funny jokes, and heart. Hungry anyone?
A movie that was able to rival Disney at the beginning of their peek. I loved it as a kid and I'm sure today's children will also be fond of it if they got the chance to see it before they look at the 3D movies they have now.
After the failures of feature-films 'The Grinch' (2000) and 'The Cat in the Hat' (2003), this third Dr Seuss adaptation is something to celebrate, doing justice to the famed children-story-teller the way only animation could. Also backed by an excellent voice-cast including Jim Carrey, Steve Carrell, Carol Burnett, Will Arnett, Seth Rogen and many more. One complaint, (and it's an empty complaint), is that it deamonises our kangaroos. The Kangaroo should have had an Aussie accent...but who cares?
I had low expectations for this film, so it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Having said that it could have been so much better. In fact, it had the potential to be the funniest movie ever. The TV series during the '90s was the greatest show of all time. No comedy could rival it, not even South Park. But the last 6 years have been terrible. Groening should have stopped the show ages ago but refuses to do so. The movie is better than what the series are now but if it was made, say, in 1997 it could have been the funniest movie of all time. Why did they take so long to make it? Oh well. The plot was weak. Compared to the cleverness we have seen in the past on the show, this movie had a crap plot. Another flaw was the slapstick comedy outweighed the satirical clever humour. There were funny bits and the 2D animation was good, but there wasn't enough focus on the supoorting characters. The characters who make the show hilarious. Eg Mr Burns, Apu, Willie, Skinner, Lovejoy etc. They were all there but not enough screen time. Also, why did they show a penis? The subtle suggestive innuendo humour was a part of what made the show good and what seperated it from 'South Park' and 'Family Guy'. I guess that's the age we're living in, but it kind of took away its, for lack of a better word, innocence. I think I'll go and watch some re-runs of my favourite TV show to remember what The Simpsons used to be. It wasn't a bad movie, it just should have been made when The Simpsons were at their peek. Maybe they should have made the 'Who shot Mr Burns' episodes the movie instead of the series, extend it a bit and add a few more jokes...that would have been a great movie.
Not as good as other Pixar films but it's still an achievement. The animation is once again top-notch as Pixar shows that they are the best when it comes to animation. Pixar movies usually involve a world that humans are oblivious too but are right under their noses and who live like humans do (Toy Story, A Bug's Life, Monster's Inc, The Incredibles etc). This time they decide to make the world according to cars, but it's not among a human world. There are no humans and so they don't live among humans but have their own universe. That's what bothered me with this film. Who made the cars? The credibility goes out the window. Still kids will like it and the humour is good.
