1
Gangs of New York (2002,  R)
Gangs of New York
A hugely impressive film from Martin Scorsese, everything in the movie is on such a grand level, acting, scenery, it?s epic length.

A great cast from both sides of the pond, where there were Irish with an American accent and Americans with an Irish accent.

Personally, I?m not too much of a fan of Award ceremonies, as I don?t like them to influence my film choices, but it?s easy to see where all the awards came from in the making of this film, Daniel Day-Lewis was outstanding and there's no doubt of him earning his award for this role.

My Left Foot (1989,  R)
My Left Foot
A phonominal true story brought to life by the fantastic performances of Daniel Day Lewis and Brenda Fricker.

This Jim Sherridan film really grasps the poverty of the era which really gives you a sense of a working class family during this time. Also captured well was the Mother and son relationship and the strength of a family that stands together.

Powerful, emotional and brilliant.
3
There Will Be Blood (2007,  R)
There Will Be Blood
Daniel Day Lewis, no doubt gave yet another storming performance in this film, proving himself yet again he is consistantly great in every project he undertakes. Paul Dano also took a very good part, however, this film to me had been so built up, that being honest, had the forementioned stars not have been in it, all that would have been left was an incredibly dull storyline, which I would have struggled to have reached the end.

I do feel I have missed out on something here, as I don?t quite understand it?s popularity, it?s storyline didn?t seem strong enough to warrant a 2 hour plus film.

My rating purely reflects the level of acting in the film.
4
In the Name of the Father (1993,  R)
In the Name of the Father
The tragic and touching tale of the wrongly imprisioned Guilford Four, plus others, is brought to life by Director Jim Sheridan, with a first class cast, led strongly by Daniel Day-Lewis and Pete Postlewaite.

This true story is a harrowing watch of corruption and cover ups and delivers a strong, powerful storyline.
5
The Boxer (1997,  R)
The Boxer
Just a tad drawn out, but wonderful performances all around with a powerful topic.
6
The Last of the Mohicans (1992,  R)
The Last of the Mohicans
I found the first half of the film surprisingly dull and the second much more exciting, I feel I need another viewing of this film to take it in better.
7
The Unbearable Lightness of Being (1988,  R)
The Unbearable Lightness of Being
It was more like ?the unbearable anticipation that the end of the film will be soon?! This film seemed to go on forever, without any excitement, in fact, this has to be one of the dullest films ever made and that?s uncharacteristic of both Daniel Day Lewis and Juliette Binoche.
8
Gandhi (1982,  PG)
9
The Crucible (1996,  PG-13)
10
A Room With A View (1985,  R)

You can look through many Actors' filmography and rarely would you be faced with as many powerhouse performances as Daniel Day-Lewis has been able to accomplish.

DDL is truly one of the greatest Actors of our time and seems to get stronger with each and every performance.
