Ed Norton is a very versitile actor. He really does go for a huge range of characters. The finest performance to date has to be 'American History X'

Worthy of all the recommendations, I received, I guess this story fits my liking for tragic romances. The views of China are breathtaking and great performances from Norton and Watts who managed to pass as sounding English where so many fail.

This isn't the type of film you can describe very well to someone else without giving away the storyline, so I just recommend that you watch it.

Down in the Valley (2005,  R)
Down in the Valley 4.0 Stars
Not a film I had heard of previously, but one with a good storyline. It lures you into a false sense of security and then a much deeper side to the film emerges. The dvd cover says "Reminders of 1970's aces Taxi Driver and Badlands" and I see hints of both as possible influences, but the film it reminded me of was 'Fear' with Mark Wahlberg, only a much better version.

I think the beauty of this film is that most will be able to relate to at least one of the characters. My only complaint would be that the ending seemed a little stretched out.

The Italian Job 3.5 Stars
Not the best heist film I've ever seen, but a strong cast (half of which I'd forgotten was in this film) and an easy sit back and and just watch with no complicated working out - a film for a lazy day!

25th Hour (2002,  R)
25th Hour 2.5 Stars
This film I find quite hard to rate, Ed Norton's performance was really good as always and the opening scene really grabs your attention striaght away, various other parts of the film were good too. There is a speech from Ed Norton, that practically insulted everyone, I should imagine if this film had been popular, everyone would have remembered and referred to.

Despite all the good parts mentioned, there were a lot of boring scenes. The message in this film if quite clearly conveyed, but the storyline I felt was quite weak and there could have been a lot more they couldn've added. I will take one good quote from it though 'Champagne for my real friends and real pain for my sham friends"

Red Dragon (2002,  R)
Red Dragon 4.5 Stars
Just like the other films featuring Hannibal Lector I seem to pick up on something different every time I watch this. Red Dragon is the most similar to the original 'Silence of the lambs'.

With practically an all star cast, great performances from Anthony Hopkins, Ed Norton and Ralph Fiennes. A very clever plot.

Took a little time to warm up, but once it did this was a good film, I hate to say it being such a De Niro fan, but Edward Norton may have just played the better role in this.

American History X (1998,  R)
American History X 5.0 Stars
Re-watched this film and found it as powerful as the first time I'd watched it. This to date is definitely Edward Norton's role of a life time, he made parts cringeworthy and you just couldn't wait for him to be turned around, Edward Furlong played a fantastic part too. There was something in this movie that made it feel so real. This film isn't a promotion for violence, it's a promotion for peace.

The Illusionist 4.0 Stars
A very interesting and entertaining story, inevitably because of the them and the release date it will always be compared with 'The Prestige' and most people have their views on which one is best, however, I liked them both equally.

There is so much I could say and want to say about this film, but it would spoil the storyline.

VERDICT@ A definite recommendeation

The People Vs. Larry Flynt (1996,  R)
The People Vs. Larry Flynt 3.5 Stars
An interesting story based on true events. It was actually Courtney Love, I found was the best character in this. Ed Norton looked pretty young and although didn't take a bad part, it was certainly before he peaked.

VERDICT: If you're easily offended by scenes of sexual nature, it's not for you as this is the main focus to the story
