Cape Fear (1991, R)
This 1991 version of Cape Fear, has to be one of the best remakes ever, especially as the original was so good. Not Scorseses usual style of film, but DeNiro is outstanding as lead character Max Cady, a role in which DeNiro researched and built up the part to play including going to prisons to pick out tattoos. Great performances also to Juliette Lewis and Jessica Lange. |

| 2 |
Taxi Driver (1976, R)
A film of absolute brillience, I last watched this iflm in my teens when I just didn't get the greatness of it. |
|
| 3 |
Raging Bull (1980, R)
As a De Niro and Scorsese fan I'm not sure why I'd waited so long to watch this masterpiece. |
|
| 4 |
GoodFellas (1990, R)
One of the greatest films ever made, Ray Liotta makes his role of a lifetime appearance leading a star cast of unfaulted actors in Scorsese's masterpiece. |
|
| 5 |
Once Upon a Time in America (1984, R) |
|
| 6 |
Sleepers (1996, R)
Just my all time favourite film, another re-watch. |
|
| 7 |
A Bronx Tale (1993, R)
Utterly brilliant! In De Niro's directional debut, we see him taking a back seat as a supporting actor in this film as Chazz Palminteri, takes his one man stage show to the big screen. |
|
| 8 |
Casino (1995, R)
Scorsese?s Casino reunites De Niro and Pesci once again in what is an Epic length Drama based on actual events. |
|
| 9 |
The Godfather, Part II (1974, R)
The Godfather films require stamina because of the length, at over 3 hours long, the film is not fast paced, yet elegantly created. |
|
| 10 |
Jackie Brown (1997, R)
Probably the most underrated of the Tarantino movies, with great development of characters, a clever plot and as always great music. |
|
| 11 |
Awakenings (1990, PG-13) |
|
| 12 |
The Deer Hunter (1978, R)
After a slow start ?Deerhunter? evolves into an impressive piece of cinema history, with the ability to have as strong an impact today as it did at the time of it?s release. |
|
| 13 |
The Score (2001, R) |
|
| 14 |
Men of Honor (2000, R) |
|
| 15 |
Flawless (1999, R)
Another great film from Joel Schumacher, with a great performance from De Niro (as always) who very convincingly played a Stroke patient, but even more impressive was the performance given by Philip Seynour Hoffman, who delivered (in my opinion) his best performance to date. I love the way this unlikely friendship develops and is a very enjoyable film. |
|
| 16 |
Ronin (1998, R)
A much better film than I remember this being, with a plot that's fast and sometimes hard to keep up with comes great acting by an all star cast, some of the best high speed chase scenes ever to appear in films, terrorism, betrayal, great twists and turns and action packed. |
|
| 17 |
This Boy's Life (1993, R) |
|
| 18 |
City by the Sea (2002, R) |
|
| 19 |
Midnight Run (1988, R) |
|
| 20 |
The Fan (1996, R)
De Niro is an obsessed Baseball fan, whose love for the game, sees him doing unbelivable things to meet his sporting hero. |
|
| 21 |
Mean Streets (1973, R) |
|
| 22 |
Meet the Parents (2000, PG-13) |
|
| 23 |
The Untouchables (1987, R) |
|
| 24 |
Mary Shelley's Frankenstein (1994, R)
Kenneth Branagh directs and stars in this screen adaption of Mary Shelly?s Frankenstein, very fitting roles for both Brannagh and Helena Bonham Carter, who both suit the era and the mood of the piece well. For those who are watching this film as a Robert De Niro film (as I did first time around) there may well be some disappointment as (let?s say) he doesn?t reach his acting potential here. |
|
| 25 |
Angel Heart (1987, R)
Fans of Robert De \Niro may be slightly disappointed as he is only in the film for about 10 minutes, however Mickey Rourke is the star in this film. |
|
| 26 |
Guilty by Suspicion (1991, PG-13) |
|
| 27 |
Hide and Seek (2005, R) |
|
| 28 |
Cop Land (1997, R) |
|
| 29 |
Stardust (2007, PG-13)
For those of you who enjoyed the Pirates of the Caribbean films and The Chronicles of Narnia, this is definitely your type of film, filled with magical moments and a fairy tale style storyline. |
|
| 30 |
Mad Dog and Glory (1993, R) |
|
| 31 |
15 Minutes (2001, R) |
|
| 32 |
Falling in Love (1984, PG-13)
I?m not sure I like De Niro so much in romantic roles, he was still pretty good in this and so was Meryl Streep, but I just prefer his other tougher roles, I guess he did too, otherwise he would have made more. Maybe the romance was not tragic enough for my liking. |
|
| 33 |
The Mission (1986, PG) |
|
| 34 |
Shark Tale (2004, PG) |
|
| 35 |
Godsend (2003, PG-13) |
|
| 36 |
Backdraft (1991, R) |
|
| 37 |
Analyze This (1999, R)
Quite a funny take on the pre Soprannos Crime boss in need of therapy. A great comedy slant on the genre, which gives De Niro a familiar genre to play with, yet a chance to explore the Comedy genre. An enjoyable performance from Billy Crystal. The first half is definitely better than the second, but it?s still worth a watch. |
|
| 38 |
Analyze That (2002, R) |
|
| 39 |
Marvin's Room (1996, PG-13) |
|
| 40 |
True Confessions (1981, R) |
|
| 41 |
Greetings (1968, R)
A quirky early film for De Niro, where it doesn?t really give his acting skills chance to shine through and yet, it is strangely intriguing. It feels like the type of movie which could have developed a Cult following, being an either love it or hate it type of film and yet I?m guessing as a lesser known title, this didn?t seem to be the case. |
|
| 42 |
The Swap (Sam's Song) (Line of Fire) (1969, R) |
|
| 43 |
Born to Win (Addict) (1971, R)
Robert De Niro fans be prepared for disappointment, De Niro's performance throughout the film, probably adds up to around 5 minutes. |
