No Country for Old Men (2007,  R)
No Country for Old Men
After a fairly slow start, there emerges one of the best films of the last few years. It takes everything predictable and turns it on its head. This film (for me) is by far the best film The Coen Brothers have ever made.

There are times throughout, that I almost forgot that it's a bad man, hunting another bad man and found myself feeling sorry for the guy.

The acting was of great quality and Javier Bardem played one of the best killers ever to be casted in a film.

With regard to the ending, it was abrupt and maybe considered as somewhat of an anti-climax, but this to me gave the film some realism and again an unpredictability.

Milk (2008,  R)
Milk
An extremely worthy tale to tell of the true story of Harvey Milk, Gay and Human rights activist turned politician during the 70?s in San Fransisco.

Yet another great performance from Penn and very Gus Van Sant to bring a controversial story to light.

This is a great awareness story and a legacy that will live on. It also acts as a metaphor for any type of minority, whatever that minority might be.

Hollow Man (2000,  R)
Hollow Man
A great edge of your seat Thriller/Horror. Kevin Bacon plays evil impressively in this well cast film, which combines Science and endless possibilities when things begine to spiral out of control.

The use of effects in this film are outstanding and really create the atmosphere of the story.

Nightwatch (1998,  R)
Nightwatch
After a little bit of a slow start comes a film that is dark and slightly eerie. A really enjoyable watch.

I'm not really a fan of stars taking on new accents unless it's done really well, I think you could still hear the Scottish in Ewan's voice, apart from that, I enjoyed his performance.

American Gangster (2007,  R)
American Gangster
This film is not for people looking for non-stop action, based on a true story, this lengthly drawn out film is only for those with the stamina to see it out to the end.

Admittedly if I'd seen this on dvd, I would have been tempted to quit watching after the first hour or would have at least watched it in two sittings. At the end of the film it leaves you feeling glad you saw it through and it is indeed a hell of a tale. My advice would be not to read too much abou the film before you see it.

Great performance from Denzel, but I have to say that it was Russell Crowe that shone for me.

VERDICT: A Brilliantly put together film for those who can last the distance

Planet Terror (Grindhouse Presents: Robert Rodriguez's Planet Terror) (2007,  R)
Planet Terror (Grindhouse Presents: Robert Rodriguez's Planet Terror)
This film for me was definitely a guy's film. In normal circumstances I would never make such a claim, in fact that in itself would feel like a challenge to me, however, hot chicks, zombies and machine guns were just a little too testosterone fueled for me.

I can see the appeal for others, but admittedly this is not my type of genre and I did find it a little boring. If anything it upped my opinion of 'Death Proof' - the other part of the double bill known as 'Grindhouse'.

What I do like about this project is these two popular Directors working in conjunction with eachother to create the double bill.

The press conference on the special features is pretty interesting and worth a watch, but in particular for Robert Rodriguez, for me, this is nowhere in the league of 'Sin City'.

A reletively new Actor for me, but one I was impressed with whilst watching 'No Country for Old Men'. I'm hoping his filmography will live up to my expectations.
