Told in the tradition of that in "Memento" i.e the storyline is played backwards, the film opens with a very visually dark scene accompanied by a pretty bizarre sound (that's still running through my head!! ha ha), along with some very dizzy filming, the viewer isn't particularly aware of what is going on straight away, but within the first couple of scenes the storyline developes and of course you are intrigued to know, how it all began.
The married couple, Cassel and Bellucci are great together on screen in this unique, bizarre and very entertaining film. One scene in particular is very daring and controversial.
Another great performance from Cassel who seems to manage to express every emotion possible throughout the process of the film.
I was completely blown away by this storyline. The plot travels along steadily at first and is very 2-dimensional, but soon enough, come clever flashbacks, sub-plots and intertwining relationships, which all managed to link together and yet still keeps you surprised throughout.
Vincent Cassell is as always impressive and monica Bellusi (something I rarely comment on!) was absolutely stunning.
A unique investigation story into two young murdered girls, this is an extremely powerful and controversial part for Gene Hackman, which for me has to be his best role to date.
The filming mainly takes part in one room, which is a hard thing to do, to keep the concentration of the audience, but apart from the first five minutes (just warming up) I was drawn to the story all the way through. There were some clever little flashbacks based on hypothesis which worked really well.
This is my second viewing of the film and I enjoyed it probably more than the first time, as my rating has gone up.
Both Winona Ryder and Sadie Frost look stunning in this Academy award winning film. Beautiful costumes for this period piece and an intriguing storyline . Not my usualt type of film granted, and it was a little drawn out in parts, but overall pleasantly surprised and I can certainly see it?s appeal.
Took a while to warm up, but once it did there were some impressive fight scenes (maybe a few too many, perhaps a little overkill). Some great graphics, special effects and stunts, a few boring parts, but mostly enjoyable.
