Inuyasha - Guren no houraijima (Fire on the Mystic Island)
The inuyahsa movie formula is a good 1 but, you just expect it to be improved a little, yet it stays the same. Pretty sure weve seen this already, cant they come up with anything better? Inuyasha and Kagome save a group of innocents from a band of unruly demons blah blah blahhh. the dialouge just doesn't flow. overall not very impressive.

Paprika (2006,  R)
Paprika
Satoshi Kon's film adaptation of popular Japaneese novel Paprika, written by a famous and successful Japaneese author.

Kon's great attention to real life details,is exhibited in each of his projects and very much so in Paprika.

This film is loaded with vivid color, surreal lighting effects, and environments that truly explore the depth of existance.each scene and detail beautifully animated, in a unique style which Kon has really made his signature.

Very adventurous in nature,Paprika is a highly imaginative story about the subconscious.
With the high production value and consistancy that you've come to expect from todays top animated films.

Kon hand drew 1046 single frames of storyboard which took him a little over a year and a half to complete.

Almost ever aspect of the film was overseen by Kon including the voice recording, which he also lended his voice for one of the characters.

Audio and visuals work woderfully together, although the storyline appears far fateched and hard to follow, making it a deeply thought provoking fiction fantasy of grand proportions.

A simple theme describing the core plot could be stated as What Happens when a dream mergers with other dreams becomes uncontrollable and begins seeping into reality? This idea is expanded upon throught the film.

The characters consist of all adult profesionals, all of them having a relation to each other and play a significant part in the story. With each of these characters The creator has managed to avoid stereotypes, and give them each a uniqueness and certain relatability. Instead of using the straightforward approach of defining Heroes and Villians by way of right vs wrong, each characters motives are used to determine a more complex classification.

Paprika is overall a rich and intriguing tale that you will need to watch more than once to really grasp and appreciate its meaning.

Fist of the North Star (,  R)
Fist of the North Star
Based on the animated series of the same name. produced in Japan as a comic strip (manga) then an anime series that debuted in 1984. This attempts to summarize the events of the series. However, several important characters and events from the story are missing. The film goes further than the anime in terms of nsane violence and intense gore. Witness one of the most brutal and mature animations ever created. A tragic tale of human survival, dramatic and powerful. Kung Fu enthusiasts rejoice, for this is your anthem.

Afro Samurai: Resurrection (2009,  Unrated)
Afro Samurai: Resurrection
Blood, Blades,Bones, and Broken Hearts?what does it all have in common?

Behold the man with the numba 1 headband. Who is he? What has he become?
A slave to his own title. A prisoner to his own power.

He must kill those who seek to take his claim. The headband is what everyone desires.
He won?t allow them to get their hands on it.

Afro is certainly not a fairy tale film
By now I?m sure the general public has become aware of how dark and violent anime can be, so this should be no surprise. ,the level of bloodshed and brutality. In fact it spills so much blood it ranks right up there with the cult classic Ninja Scroll which set the bar for
mature content and hardcore graphic violence.

Afro is a man who has to deal with the intense pain of his past as well as his survival for the future in a world that looks at him as a cold blooded killer. On the inside Afro is a man who just wants peace and acceptance but he is forced to walk the path or retribution.

When it comes to stylization, AS is a movie packed with extreme and dynamic layers of brilliantly animated sequences. Moves that look like a combination of flawless dance steps, and whirlwind kung fu, fly through the screen begging you not to blink, not even for a second. With blazing speed faster than lighting, and intensity to match, AS is an amazing display of physicality meets fiction.

I really feel that this movie goes beyond what people consider a creative sword fight, and takes it to a level previously unexceptable.

The story is a mash up of people and events from Afro?s controversial past. Everyone is out for vengeance and will stop at nothing short of mass murder to get their satisfaction.
The plot of this film, continues from the shows conclusion and manages to capture the same vibe, while also increasing the overall scale and scope of the AS universe.

The villains are so wicked and tortured it?s clear that they deserve absolutely no mercy, which is why you won?t feel sorry for them if they get sliced and diced into a million little pieces. In fact you?ll be praying to witness such an event.

Afro on the other hand, your cant help but feel sorry for, there is nothing but death and hatred in his life. His emotions buried so deep within his soul, they may never escape.
His silent nature proves his inner conflict. His spiritual guide, the character know as Ninja Ninja returns to his role of Afro?s conscience, friend, and perhaps unlikely mentor, furthermore, he provides any and all comic relief, voiced of course by the talented Samuel L Jackson who also reprises his role as AS.

Character designs look interesting and uniquely cutting edge, well drawn and depicted to the tee, each personality animates they way you?d expect it to judging by their appearance.

The narration tends to lean itself more toward a poetic side, yet it?s not too vague, that it fails give you a decent back story and explanations.

I?ll say it once again this movie shows absolutely no mercy and delivers one of the most cut throat tales I?ve ever witnessed.

Adding to mix is a well crafted blend of hip hop and rap music, providing the tempo and mood for each thrilling scene. It?s well placed, well balanced and quite enjoyable.

The movie only works as an anime, which means it?s a world where just about anything unexpected, and seemingly unbelievable has to be accepted, that?s just due to the extreme nature of such a story. So in other words, suspend your beliefs and check your doubts at the door, just go with it. Trust me, you?ll enjoy it better.

That?s not to say the writing is inconsistent or contains loopholes. It?s a well thought out and finely executed production.

If you enjoyed the tv series and felt like it ended all too suddenly, this should be the encore you?ve been wishing for. Its cool, it?s cruel, and it?s Afro Samurai at its finest.

Lady Death (2004,  Unrated)
Lady Death
Whats that saying? Hell hath no furry like a Woman scorned?
Im pretty sure they were talkin bout her.

Lady Death was pretty fricken sweet. This movie rocked of hardcore brutal death, and despairage. There was skull bashing, head slicing and blood splattering, all the things you love in a movie right? Not to mention Lady Death has some killer big ***s.

Anyway if you're a fan of Barbarian epics, I think you'll like this. Yeah it coulda been more brutal, there should have been a gigantic fire breathing dragon or something but, it still kicked a$$.

As great as the Wonder Woman movie was, this was much better in terms of action, but im afraid that WW had this beat in terms of story and presentation. Although this had some really nice visuals, besides Lady Death's massive chest.

Anyway where was I ? Oh yah , I think this movie should be granted a sequel. I'd totaly say it's on par if not better than the cult film Heavy Metal.(another death metal homage). So If dark anime is your thing, you gotta check this out.

Think about this, what kind of a statement is it when Satan is your father and you visciously murder him with no regret? I think thats pretty bold.
What other characters can actualy say that? I mean she overcame the mass armies of hell itself ( with a little help of course ).

The movie is a tad anticlimatic. You'd think the ruler of all evil and darkness would be just a little more powerful but nawww. Turns out he can get his head chopped off and die fairly easily.

I cant say for sure how well it stacks up compared to the comics, but Im betting they missed a few things. I read from the creator that he is quite disatisfied with this release, so there is much need for improvement.

I'd love to see Lady Death get more attention, she is just as badass as Spawn ( well not quite thats cutting it a bit close ), and definetly more badass than He-man ever was or will be. I also like that shes not a very mainstream character. Theres no badder b*tch around as far as im concerned not even the Witchblde holds a candle to LD.

Any comic buff or sci fi fan should check this out no questions asked just pick it up, put it in and enjoy. Its not the holy covenant of animation spectaculars but, you could do far worse.
