The Seven Samurai (Shichinin no Samurai) (1954, Unrated)
.certainly contender for most inspirational film ever madem, and certainly a bechmark in action films, filmed in the 50s this did brake all the rules to what can and should be done in cinema, and introduced the world to asian and japanees cinema, everyone from john ford to george lucas owe a dept to kurosawa, as a film maker. a town is over run by bandits, and they will return in a few months, when the crops are ready, and will again steel and take what ever they wish, the towns folk have had enough and seek help from a samuri, he will help them out, so he and a band of samuri turn up in this town, and realise they got there work cut out for them, will the town and indeed the samuri be ready for the return of the raiders, it simply is breathtaking, the pace of this film is spot on, and considering its lenth, close to 3 hours its really great how they kep it interesting,as when w get to the siege, its one long chess game so to speak, the bad guys attack the samuri defend and so on, but its great, but theres more than just action, great early scenes howing village life, trainng sequenes and honour being tested, this ls up there with citizen cain in terms of technics being seen and storytlling especially for the modern action, one of the rare acton films that stand up against so called proper films, as there known, but deserves to be, not sure if young people will get this film, but im sure young film fas should check it out, just a masterpiece, |
