Road to Perdition (2002, R)
everytime i watch this film it touches me more. it hits me even harder now that i have kids. in my opinion, this is easily one of the most underrated films of all time, and absolutely beautiful portrayal of redemption and family. the acting was great, the score was perfect and a bit haunting, and the cinematography was among the greatest work of all time. one of newmans final films, i watched this the day he died as a tribute to his legacy. a masterpiece. |

The Hustler (1961, Unrated)
for some reason i found the first half of this film slow and i was ready to not like it. by the end i had absolutely fallen in love with it. first of all, the cinematography was astounding, some of the best i had ever seen. Almost every shot in the film could be taken as a still and hung on a wall as art. it was perfectly shot. newmans acting was amazing so its no wonder that this film is the one that took him from star to superstar in the movie world. and again, while the plot took time to pick up steam, by the end you can see how nearly perfect this story is. a truly great film and near masterpiece that deserved each of its 9 oscar nominations. |

Exodus (1960, Unrated)
this four hour epic chronicles the lives of jews in palestine in the aftermath of WW2. this is a great film with some of the most philosophical and thought provoking diologue one could hope to find in the movies. complete with hunger strikes, political bombings, jail breaks and beautiful symbolism of the relationship of humanity, the word epic is no stretch for this wonderful movie. |

The Color of Money (1986, R)
this is an excellent film. the story was very interesting and its easy to invest in the characters. this semi-sequel wasnt quite as good as the hustler, but it did flow a little better. newmans performance was better in the original, but he was very good in this one and deserved his oscar. cruise was asked to play a character that annoys a bit too much, but the fact that he annoyed me means he played the character well. over all a great future classic. |

Cool Hand Luke (1967, Unrated)
cool hand luke is a fun movie. it suffers from a slow pace and the complete lack of a plot, but newman is excellent as always and the end was perfect. the film also had some unforgetable moments, like the boxing match and the egg eating, cementing this as a very good film and a must see for paul newman fans. |

Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (1958, Unrated)
although this still suffered from some of the same pretentious crap that all other films based on plays by tennessee williams suffer from, this film had some amazing things going for it. paul newman and liz taylor were both very good, burl ives is classic as always, and the end of the film was pure magic. the film had actually almost lost me a few times, but the end could not have been better. |
