actress 2: scarlett johansson movies
Scarlett Johansson is my second favorite actress of all time. Her film choices I hope will improve, but as an actress I love her. Here is a list of my favorite Scarlett movies of all time.

Vicky Cristina Barcelona (2008, PG-13)
this is a film about disfunctional people, and not a single one of them has a philosophy of life worth supporting in the least. however, for some reason when you put these sad people together in a film it becomes something magical and turns out to be one of the very best films of the year. the best of the woody/scarlett collaborations, every one of the actors was witty and charming and the script was excellent. this is a great escapist film and has a perfect subtlety to it. excellent movie. |

The Prestige (2006, PG-13)
fantastic movie. it wasnt quite as good as i had hoped, because i love the direction of christopher nolan and im a big scarlet johansson fan i thought this might be a 5 star flick, but it was still incredible. great twists, great acting. michael caine was brilliant as always. unfortunately i compared this to the illusionist since it came out about the same time and i liked the illusionist better. i loved this flick though. |

Girl With a Pearl Earring (2003, PG-13)
this was a really good film with star power and solid performances until the final 15 minutes where the film completely fell apart. until the end, the story was intriguing and innovative and i was really curious as to how the film would end. when the film wound down to its final scenes there was drama over simple issues made to be bigger than they should have been and scenes filled with symbolism that fell flat. overall it was a good movie with a dissapointing conclusion. |

The Other Boleyn Girl (2008, PG-13)
this is a very average film. it was definitely well done, with great star power and solid performances, but the film suffered greatly from a less than desireable script. the film was shallow and lifeless, the characters empty and underdeveloped. the scenes were not connected to one another well. the characters were flip flopping with little explaination and there were some obvious solutions to many problems, but reasons were not given as to why some solutions were abandoned. johansson played the only semi-likeable character, and while the film entertained it fell flat in many areas. |

The Black Dahlia (2006, R)
who else but brian depalma could take a phenomenal cast and one of the most interesting murders in american history and turn it into a sloppy mess on screen. johanssons polarizing presence on screen is all that saves this horrible film from reaching the depths of film making. the story was incoherent at best, and most of the film was spent on things that had nothing to do with the tale at hand. what a waste of film. |
