E.T. - The Extra-Terrestrial
"E.T." is one of those movies that's great when you're a kid, but seems to lose a lot of its appeal once you turn thirteen.

All the President's Men
I'm sorry, but this movie is BORING! And no, I'm not the kind of moviegoer who has to be watching explosions in order to be entertained. If you take a good look at my ratings and reviews, that should be apparent. This is just a boring, boring movie, and that's all I can say, really.

47
2001: A Space Odyssey (1968,  G)
2001: A Space Odyssey
I have no idea why this movie gets so much acclaim. It's not very profound or poetic despite its aspirations, and it's dull and needlessly drawn out. It's people jumping around in gorilla suits and screaming, classical music in zero gravity, and a guy turning inexplicably into a fetus after an interminable psychadelic light show, all spread out over the course of two and a half hours. I know there are many movie buffs out there who swear by this film, but seriously...ugh.
48
The African Queen (1951,  Unrated)

65
A Raisin in the Sun (1961,  PG)
66
Silkwood (1983,  R)
Silkwood
I found it difficult to take Karen Silkwood's fears of radiation-induced cancer seriously, as she spent nearly every scene with a cigarette between her lips.
67
The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951,  G)
The Day the Earth Stood Still
The movie was pretty good up until the end, when it seemed to hammer the "moral" message that humanity, in order to prevent destructive violence and cruelty, must subjugate itself to a fascist authority assigned to keep society in check. I don't like the idea that human passions and emotions should come second in priority to safety and harmonious coexistence. We've seen that idea applied by certain governments in real life, and all that resulted was oppressive dictatorship.
68
An Officer and a Gentleman (1982,  R)
69
The Spirit of St. Louis (1957,  Unrated)
The Spirit of St. Louis
The movie is well-made, but it's very by-the-book and way too long. Not very interesting or exciting.
