Kurosawa was noticeably getting his barrings in this one, because the first half of the film is somewhat of a mess. One part melodrama, one part political-message film, "No Regrets for Our Youth" is saved from utter failure by a strong last act and a worthy performance by Susumu Fujita.

Apparently the first true Kurosawa film, "Drunken Angel" is a tragic film exploring illness, medical and societal. Kurosawa shows his sadness in the state of Post-war Tokyo in this gritty film starring Takashi Shimura and Toshiro Mifune.

Reminiscent of Bicycle Thieves in its bleak view of life in a post-war country. The acting and directing is well done, the only thing the film suffers from is that it is too slow paced at certain points.

A great ensemble piece. Each character is acted perfectly pulling you into the depressing lives of these down-and-out bums. Kurosawa's version is much darker than Renoir's and I believe it is truer to the original play. A formidable piece examining the lower parts of society.

Extremely funny and also a must see for any Star Wars fan. This film established Toshiro Mifune as Kurosawa's man and is a great adventure story.

Unrelenting in its depiction of corporate Japan, this film attacks the greed and evil of upper class business. The title refers to the fact that evil men go unpunished and have clear consciences, a title that truly describes the film. It is surprising that this film is not brought up when discussing Kurosawa because it is definitely one of his most admirable.

Definitely not as good as Yojimbo, the sequel Sanjuro is still a really good film. The weak parts about the film have to be the fact that the supporting characters are idiots. I know they are supposed to be but it sometimes makes you frusturated during the film. Very good though and definitely worth watching.

An extremely interesting film that takes a more traditional, Asian approach. Kurosawa forgoes some of his tradition Adventure and makes a film that is more serious and artistic. Great story and brilliant visuals. A must for Kurosawa fans.

Awe-inspiring film. The majesty of it is unmatched by almost any movie. Kurosawa follows the style of Kagemusha and creates an even more emotional and visual masterpiece. Some complain about its pace but they are too hyper to appreciate good cinema. This film requiring a viewing.

An under appreciated film by Kurosawa. This film ignites strong emotions in the viewer and contains some great moments. It is also very reminiscent of "My Neighbor Totoro" by Hayao Miyazaki in its setting and issues. Not Kurosawa's best but a very admirable and intimate effort.

A great farewell from Kurosawa. A film reflects on his views on life that stands as a great legacy to his work. Although not autobiographical, we know that this film is really about Kurosawa, not Uchida.
