Hauru no ugoku shiro (Howl's Moving Castle) (2005, PG)
This was an amazing fantasy adventure, but I'm not particularly a fan of anime. I watch them for the excellent stories and adventure, but am always left wondering how much better they could be if redone as live-action by Hollywood, and wanting to watch Stardust. But that's just my tastes. This movie still had really great and likable characters, all of them. Old lady, young lady, crazy tantrum throwing wizard, little boy, pogo stick, and talking fire alike. It has excellent fantasy elements, style, and setting. And the story is awesome. Really really interesting, even if it didn't always make sense. But a fantasy isn't complete without a hero and a girl, and that was my favourite part. |

Vexille (2008, PG-13)
The futuristic world this created was fascinating, the technology and weapons, the action sequences, especially the opening scene were breathtaking. But somewhere in the middle things slowed down a little too much. The story, the action, and the introduction of new futuristic elements. Everything was so fast paced, then almost stopped, then flew again at the end. A little awkward, but still great. |

Steamboy (2005, PG-13)
There were a lot of problems with this, but there was still something about it that I really liked. The story was vague and confusing. There wasnt a lot of explanations. Scarlett's characters was also confusing at first and very inconsistent. And having the main character voiced by Anna Paquin was very disconcerting. But the action was really fun, and Ray was a great little hero. I didnt think I would be able to grow to like Scarlett, but I did, and her and Ray were so cute. Too bad they had to be so young making a romance inappropriate. |

Kaubôi Bibappu: Tengoku no Tobira (Cowboy Bebop the Movie: Knockin' on Heaven's Door) (2003, R)
This is a great action/adventure/sci-fi, whether you're into anime or not. Cuz I'm not, but someone thought I would enjoy it since they knew my interest in sci-fi/action, and they were right. It has really great characters, interesting and genuine. Great action; space battles as well as hand-to-hand and gun fights. The villian was intriguing and the mood was perfectly accompanied by the music. IMO, better than the series, even though the series was great! |
