Underworld: The Rise of the Lycans (2009,  R)
Underworld: The Rise of the Lycans
Viktor (vampire) and Lucian (Lycan) the prequel equals the best film in the franchise. Nighy and Sheen are quite simply- AWESOME. This look at what created the great war between the vampires and the Lycans is not only well written and acted, the costuming and darkness shine throughout the films entirety. The only con would be the CGI on some of the Lycan shots was a bit too CGI. This third installment only leaves me wanting more from Viktor and Lucian.

Terminator Salvation (2009,  PG-13)
Terminator Salvation
A different feel than the previous Terminator films- more bleak and grim.....

Terminator Salvation is an action packed film. Introducing the resistance fighters of 2018, a world in which John Connor is an adult and trying to save his father, Kyle Reese. The film is well shot, the acting matches the characters, and the action is awesome. The story and characters aren't developed enough, but these points alone do not distract from the enjoyment of watching an action film. Aside from a couple of cheesy moments, which the film would not have suffered without, Terminator Salvation is a great new addition to the franchise. The plot does leave open a road to follow for future installments.

Watchmen (2009,  R)
Watchmen
Disclaimer: I have not read the graphic novel.

Watchmen... one of the highly anticipated films on my 2009 list fell a bit flat. The plot is interesting enough, the cinematography was good and the score was enjoyable. Aside from the characters of Rorshach and Comedian, the other characters were not impressive, including the famed Dr. Manhattan. Unfamiliar with the graphic novel, I don't know if it was the characters within themselves or poor acting. Though I enjoyed the film, and parts of it truly shined, I had to ask myself if I were interested enough to view it again. The answer- No. With that said, the film is above average for it's respective genre and worth a viewing for anyone who is a fan of graphic novels, comics and sci-fi.

4
Taken (2009,  PG-13)
Taken
Taken is worth viewing just for Liam Neeson and the intensity he delivers. Though not an above average action film, there is plenty of action and killing in Taken. With it's somewhat predictable plot and a very lame happy ending, one could only think of how much better it might have been with a more gifted script writer. Kudos to Mr. Neeson for making the film entertaining enough to continue viewing...
5
Public Enemies (2009,  R)
6
The International (2009,  R)
The International
A conspiracy thriller film which aimed high and fell short. The plot was good, but the script fell short and aside from the great opening and a couple of action scenes, the story just crept on and on. A bit too long and sometimes boring, at least Clive Owen was easy on the eyes.
7
Inkheart (2009,  PG)
8
Possession (2008,  PG-13)
9
Duplicity (2009,  PG-13)
10

12
The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus (2009,  PG-13)
13
X-Men Origins - Wolverine (2009,  PG-13)
X-Men Origins - Wolverine
The best X-men to date! Jackman and Schreiber are fantastic, the supporting cast rocks the mutant world while keeping a truly human look, the script, direction and action are all spot on. The back story on Wolverine lets you see the passion that rules Logan and this film definitely has re-watch written all over it.
14
The Brazilian Job (2011,  Unrated)
15
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (2009,  PG-13)
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen
This time around Michael Bay gives us plenty of explosions, average CGI and a decent plot buried beneath hot shots of Megan Fox and many sexual one liners. There is very, very little character development and the affection one felt for the autobots first time around is not built upon. Though the film is enjoyable and brings quite a few hilarious moments (dependent upon ones sense of humor), it lacks the emotional connection and 'cuteness' which was so audience friendly in the first one.
16
The Lovely Bones (2009,  Unrated)
17
Repo Men (2010,  Unrated)
18
Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans (2009,  R)

Defiance (2009,  R)
Defiance
After viewing Defiance, I found myself without any negative criticisms for the film. From beginning to end, this true tale of the Bielski brothers WWII adventures into the Blearussian forest is captivating and astonishing. The polished script, flawless cinematography and brilliant acting are just icing on the cake for this inspiring story of Jewish people who resisted the Nazi occupation.
