Asian Horror

A great chilling story.

One of the better asian ghost movies. Some very creepy scenes.

This was a pleasant surprise. After seeing "Ju-on: The Grudge" which was a little dissapointing in my opinion, my expectation for this earlier "direct-to- video" film was low. The low-budget is noticeable with both the colours and the use of many static camera shots. But mostly this actually makes the movie scarier as it seems more authentic and more home-made like. Speaking of scary, this movie was a lot more thrilling than most of the higher budget asian horrors I've seen. I was also surprised that although this movie is made before the asian horror movie wave burst out (thus expecting the scares to have been copied), most of the scares still stand strong and are unique and effective.

An interesting take on the ghost genre.

A very nice film. Although I really can't think of anything wrong with it, it felt a bit too familiar for me to give it a higher rating.

Its nice to see, with all this "ring" and "grudge" ripoffs, a director who has the guts to do things his own way, and it mostly turns out great. This movie is not an exception. This chilling tales relies more on the story and characters than the actual ghosts which makes the movie alot more interesting. This way the tension buils up throughout the movie and the actual ghost parts of the movie becomes much more disturbing.

A movie that relies almost only on atmosphere and it succeeds with doing so. This is a very moody film. Weird and surrealistic with some very cool scenery.

I actually thought the first half of the movie was the better, the story was chilling and well told. The second half however was much like an average slasher film. The gore effects were great though.

Another solid horror movie by Kiyoshi Kurosawa. Although not really scary there were lots of eerie moments. There were also some very impressive scenes which were both creepy and beautiful somehow. Highly recommended.

A surreal and different horror movie. Hard to figure out what exactly is going on from time to time but that is not necessarily a bad thing.

I told my friends before watching, that from what I've read, "Buppah Rahtree" is a horror-comedy. After watching about ten minutes I was convinced I had got it mixed up with another film because this movie had not whown the slightest hint at being a comedy and seemed more like a serious drama. However after a while the movie took a complete turn to comedy. Although I laughed at several occasions, I'm wondering if maybe the movie would have been even better if it had sticked with the serious mood since it did it so well. Anyway this was a really nice goofy movie which featured some interesting new perspectives on the ghost genre. The movie was a bit too long though.

This was a smart movie and I recommend it for anyone who's tired of all the ringu rip offs and is looking for something different.

A mostly interesting slasher. Although never bad it got better towards the end. A bit more character development wouldn't hurt though.

Although slightly confusing story, the movie kept me interested and even managed to scare me a few times.

Overrated in my opinion

This was actually a good movie however it goes on way too long without contributing anything more than just annoyance.
If this movie were shorter I'd give it a 7.

Just bad... in most ways.

My expectations were a bit too high. But still a well made movie although not scary.

I expected more from the director of Noroi. This movie was surprisingly average. Yet, it was never boring and the cinematography was good.

Despite this movies many flaws I actually quite enjoyed it, I don't know why really. I guess i kind of got used to it and accepted it for what it was, an average movie. The story is quite interesting, yet simple, and made me want to continue watching even though the movie was slow. And although most of the acting was quite bad I still found the characters somewhat believable.

The first half is filled with ineffective scares and unfortunately not much more. I had no idea what was going on and couldn't find a reason to continue watching. However, by the time I was seriously considering to just give it up the movie took a turn to the better. The story finally kicks in at the second half and it actually gets pretty interesting. I had a hard time deciding wether or not to give this movie a 6 or a 5. Finally I went with the 6 because of the interesting and unusual story which got me hooked halfway through. The performances were mostly good aswell. Don't expect a chilling ghoststory though, the movie fails to be even the least bit of scary.

The first half was okey but the second was just really bad... There is nothing here that you haven't seen before. I won't spend any more time writing a review of it because I've already wasted enough time on this movie.
