The Lady from Shanghai (1948,  Unrated)
The Lady from Shanghai
Forget Citizen Kane, this is Welles' best film. Way ahead of its time. Technically a marvel. Touch of Evil - Welles' savage end to film noir - is also excellent.

Touch of Evil (1958,  PG-13)
Touch of Evil
Welles' savage end to the film noir. Astonishing cinematography with bold and dark subject matter. Welles himself gives us an unforgettably unflattering role.

Citizen Kane (1941,  PG)
Citizen Kane
You can never truly know another person. Don't trespass, don't judge another man's life. The truth is a matter of POV. What a statement for a bio-pic. Welles revolutionary debut helped legitimize cinema as an art form. Clearly the work of a consumate auteur, Citizen Kane was so ahead of its time that even today, in the 21st century, the film is just as relevant. It may not be my personal favorite, but it's unarguably and truly admirable.

The Magnificent Ambersons (1942,  Unrated)
The Magnificent Ambersons
The flawed masterpiece. Not so much Welles' fault but rather the studio that intervened. Still, what remains is undeniably impressive and hugely ambitious.

The Tragedy of Othello: The Moor of Venice (Othello) (1952,  Unrated)
The Tragedy of Othello: The Moor of Venice (Othello)
Dripping with stunning black and white photography, this faithful adaptation will undoubtedly please fans of Shakespeare. Welles delivers a committed and passionate performance.

Le Procès (The Trial) (1962,  Unrated)
Le Procès (The Trial)
Welles meets Kafka. If surrealism is your thing, then this is the film for you. The performances help keep the film relatively grounded. It's an interesting experiment that certainly has its fanbase. For me, it's slightly too cerebral, but I admire the effort.

Campanadas a medianoche (Chimes at Midnight) (Falstaff) (1965,  Unrated)
